Breaking it down into a binary kid vs not-kid thing is dumb, but as you grow up there are definitely times where you’re old enough for some things and not for others.
I’ll tell you now, if you can’t wrap your mind around adults/parents not always wording things in ways that have logical consistency, you’ll have your mind blown when you realize how much of adult-hood is just flying by the seat of your pants while only sometimes having the benefit of previous experience to draw from.
I don’t think people have an issue with parents being wrong sometimes. They have a problem with parents who pretend they are always right and don’t explain why or admit when they are wrong.
It shouldn’t be up to the child to mature and think “it’s ok they are only human”. They should learn that early from the parents.
Experience is what constitutes adulthood. That being said, its not age related but a period where there is enough maturity in you to realise the impact of experience. It is important to highlight the elements where time and experience would be that much beneficial - allowing you to grow as a person.
Both can be true.
A 12 year old is old enough to know how to clean the house, do laundry, be trusted with money, and put themselves to bed.
Not old enough to drive a car.
“Old enough” and “not old enough” don’t contradict each other like “you’re a kid” and “you’re not a kid”
