The standout last week for me was the final episode of Release That Witch. The series overall has been a revelation - it’s well-written, with interesting and well-defined characters and solid and effective, if not exceptional, art and sound, all of which is just that much more impressive because it’s a donghua. And for a series that has gone on far beyond what could be adapted into a single season, the “ending” was just about perfect - neatly wrapping up the immediate issues, and setting the stage for much more to come. I can’t imagine it won’t get at least a second season, and I’m definitely looking forward to it.
Past Seasons
I completed season 1 and the sequel movie of Made In Abyss last week. The pacing of the first season was kind of slow, but the little bits of shock value peppered here and there, plus

the big one that is Nanachi’s backstory,
made up for it.
The movie is just one big climax- of the fifth layer arc - so naturally it got me more hooked. All in all, I’d say it’s a great anime.
Also, Bondrewd joined the ranks of my top villains immediately. Maybe even the top one.
By the way, Medalist S2 soundtracks have finally been released on Youtube. I have been waiting for the clean version of Yagi Yuna’s music and now that I got to hear it, it still hits as hard as it did with her skating sequence.
With the chance to listen to the soundtrack properly, I realised what it reminded me of: soundtracks from Witch from Mercury. To be specific, it reminded me of Aerial Rebuild and Liberation from the Curse. They all sound so powerful, especially the vocals.
This Season
Release that Witch ended last week, and at 8 episodes, it’s far too short IMO.
I noticed that there are two types of isekais that I enjoy. The first are parodies e.g. Konosuba. The second are those with chad MCs e.g. Saga of Tanya the Evil. (Then there’s Cautious Hero which is of both types).
Release that Witch belongs to the second type. There are still elements of wish-fulfillment, but it is always so satisfying to follow the story of a MC who actually has a brain.
My Ribdiculous Reincarnation continued to surprise me. I was half-expecting it to fizzle out like Nokotan, but its humour is still hitting.
If anything, at least its creative direction (if that’s the right term) is unique. Do check out the second half of episode 3 if you haven’t already!
Episode 80 of 牧神记 was great.
Poems, satire, puns, great seeing the adaptations in the ⚡⚡.
