What’s stopping you from using NewPipe, PipePipe, Tubular, SkyTube, FreeTube or SmartTube?

Not sure if I’m right, but the content would still come from YouTube.

Also, I want the creators to get paid so I don’t know if that would be the case with such tools.

NewPipe and PipePipe to my knowledge bring together different services, not just Youtube. There’s also Grayjay in this vein.

And about supporting creators, I’d seek other means to support them, like bank transfers, Patreon, referrals, etc.

Of couse I’m supporting creators from Peertube with Patreon, but it’s mostly bigger creators like Austin Evans or LTT (I know people hate him on Lemmy) that I watch on YouTube and I would feel dishonnest if I was watching their content without making sure they get paid in return.

You can use something like GrayJay, LibreTube, Pipepipe, NewPipe, etc. as an alternative to YouTube and SmartTube if you’ve got Android TV (there are alternatives for other OS’s as well but I don’t remember their names at the moment) and you can import all the history, playlists, and stuff in them so it isn’t a completely new feed. Otherwise, something like Odysee would be good if you don’t want the feed you have currently and would like to start from scratch though you can use those other alternatives for it as well.

We looked at Odysee, downloaded it and waitingbfor the “credits verification” thing. Not sure what that means but we’re guessing but we’ll try that out! As for YT alt clients, only device without an altclient is our iPhone (have to have it for iMessage atm for family who live in USA)

Those credits are for creators. You can redeem those for money, but I might be wrong here. Anyways, it’s been three days, how do you find it?

So far it’s more of a seperate thing than we expect from YT. Like there’s a plethora of small channels but we noticed there’s not a whole lot of people watching the new discovery and probably only the featured. Thankfully we did find a couple of channels that we watch from YT on Odysee too. I’m wondering, how does Odysee pay channels when there’s not much on the advertising front?

    Incredible job!

Funny they would show you a dumpster picture… that’s where all current Google/Gmail/YouTube users are…
