Of the rare ones that get through ublock origin, I particularly like the popups that ask me what I thought of the website, or suggest that if I enjoyed the article, I should sign up for more like it.
Bitch, I haven’t had time to fucking read it yet!
I close those websites and never visit them again, BTW. Usually news sites, so the story will be found elsewhere easily enough.
How, after like 70 years of mainstream TV show and movie broadcasts, can anyone still think advertising and commercials are a good idea?
(answer to both: it’s because they separate the fool from their money often enough to be a viable revenue strategy)
I don’t mind them that much when it’s like, some authentication or payments thing
As a web developer: I do.
There was never a need to have things open in a new popup to begin with so having to have people disable their blocker just to perform some action is friction that should be motivating us developers to step back and say “why the hell am I doing this?”
I’m of the opinion that popups should’ve never existed at the technical level in the first place.
