That’s better than just wishing! Now you just need to find the right method and stick with it.
For me the answer, after going through the basics (rules, kanas etc), was to just jump in since my eyes glaze over when I try to learn theory. I didn’t go straight into manga but started with simple news articles on this NKH’s website instead. They are short, display kana reading for all of the words and offer audio version (sometimes relevant news clips as well) to practice listening as well. It’s a pretty good way to get used to reading and see a lot of different kanji.
It might not be the best or the most optimal way to learn but I made pretty decent progress after sticking with it for a while. I should really get back to regular practice though…
I’ve got most of the Hiragana and Katakana memorized but I’m just starting to learn basic kanji. I’m a polyglot already, so I’m a wiz with grammar and, so far, Japanese grammar is not that bad. Not easy, but definitely not the worst.
Oh yeah, you should be fine then. I agree it’s not the worst (I had more issues with Mandarin personally) but remembering kanji can be a trial, especially if you want to actually use it and not just read. Either way, good luck!
