Is there any reputable OSS keyboard out there that lets you search emojis instead of paging through the whole unicode set?
Preferably one that looks nice and also also takes avantage od spell checker? (looking piintedly at otherwuse beautiful fossify keyboard)
FUTO Keyboard has emoji search and autocorrect. It’s still an alpha release, but I’ve been using it for months.
Oh, excellent – thank you!
I don’t know if this qualifies as emoji search, but FlorisBoard shows autocomplete suggestions for emoji if you type “:” and then the name of an emoji, for example entering “:unamu” shows “😒” as an autocomplete suggestion.
FlorisBoard also looks pretty good (in my opinion).
You type a :
And then start writing a keyword(no spaces), until the emoji appears in the search-list above.
🦩 This took 1 second to add.
With :flam .
I’ve been using AnySoftKeyboard for years and never realised it could do this.
HeliBoard: For anyone else who’s become so adapted to it that they really want searchable emoji in it, here goes the only slightly circuitous way to do so:
Just go into its settings search for “suggest emoji” and tick it on, it’ll transfer you to where to download “emoji_en.dict”, install it, and you’ll be able to type a colon immediately followed by descriptions of the emoji (e.g. “:fear”, “:shrug”, “:shit”) and have the autosuggest field populate with associated suggestions.
Edit: Sometimes it’s slightly glitchy and the autosuggest keeps suggesting emoji after you’ve moved on to just typing regular words, but it’ll eventually catch up and switch back to the right dictionary.
