  • Butt chugging: next season on Hot Ones.

  • Ginger is one of seven times spiciness has independently evolved: gingerol, allicin (garlic), capsaicinoids (chili peppers), allyl isothiocyanate (mustard, horseradish, wasabi), piperine (black pepper), eugenol (cloves) and alkylamides (Sichuan peppers, which are distinct from chilis). They're all functionally pungent, but chemically distinct: meaning no single shared class.

  • I ultimately had to make the tough decision to drop my kids off at the local firehouse. But that was our deal: either college or I'm putting them up for adoption.

  • It took me several decades to realize the potential gains of marginal fun, creativity, or studying I get into those late hours gets offset by me being significantly more irritable the next day. The thought of having the rebuild up all my mental momentum the next morning is upsetting but it's part of the human condition.

  • Ah TIL

  • Loved this Gilliam banger as a kid. Robin Williams, Uma Thurman, and Gilliam's Monty Python alum Eric Idle are in it for those who haven't seen. As an adult I see a lot of parallels with that movie and Tarsem's "The Fall" (2006). They're giving hopeful yet melancholic fairy tale energy.

  • Or why not load them linearly into a single barrel. It'd shoot out straight but would likely develop asymmetries and build up a moment of inertia eventually resulting in the bolas motion they're likely intending.

    Your Grace 🙇

  • Zac Efron could start the character actor stage of his career playing this guy (who looks like a frumpy version of him).

  • Most birds are running an evolved intimidation algorithm that has more to do with humans rarely ever standing their ground, much less retaliating. I'm more used to Canada geese charging and trying to bite with their tongue depressor-like beaks. But apparently gulls, despite being 4 times less massive than geese, do have the potential to poke eyes with their sturdy beak and scratch the face with their claws.

  • My faves so far are the photonics (Sam and the Doctor) and Number One (half jem-hadar/half klingon). I don't understand the hate. They even brought back the old Klingon design!

  • Plus in the absence of any power dynamic* why shouldn't absolutely anyone be allowed to choose to be in a relationship with literally anyone else? Especially as people are increasingly choosing to not reproduce.

    If this is even possible

  • I'm just hopeful one day we begin to question whether might genuinely makes right.

  • I can't find an earlier source than Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca a couple of months ago. There's just been a lot of reposters lately on here claiming their niche.

  • Political violence shouldn't be encouraged regardless of how dispicable the representative. Eventually we as a society will need to evolve past this sort of barbarism to solve our problems.

  • Hampton was legit a genius. Rest in Power.

  • Just use a mirror to unlock their phone using their "face".

  • Crap, I'm in the process of setting up a headless Ubuntu server on my desktop to eek the maximum amount of CPU/GPU/RAM out of it for AI stuff and was planning on controlling it via my laptop.

I don't particularly care about privacy on that desktop, but would my ignorance of security hardening open me up to rogue hackers using my machine for their own purposes if I were to set it up so I could control it remotely (not just hardwired)?

  • I'm willing to be the dumbest member of this community. But on the off chance anyone else doesn't understand what problem Nginx Proxy Manager solves:

Many ISPs only allow traffic on ports 80 and 443. But distinct from a website where all pages are part of a single process, separate web apps (photos, blogs, calendar, etc) are all made by different people and need their own port.

Nginx Proxy Manager can therefore be the only thing listening at ports 80/443 and then can seamlessly forward the user to the correct port using HTTPS.

Smart people: constructive critiques are welcomed.
