They tease us with this alien file shit every few years it feels like but then there’s never any new information given. I get it, there’s other shit for us to worry about, but I’m still curious and wanna know what the deal is with these things that apparently defy the laws of physics

I mean I can certainly think of ways it could happen, depending on how the interface for a mostly automated navigation system would work.
Just one example, they could have a planetary coordinate system where practically any input would bring you to space near a different celestial body. Like they could be numbered from galaxy / solar system / orbit the way the postal codes work in many countries
Or even simpler, Siri misheard them
Surely they would double and triple check their heading and coordinates unless they were being pursued. But the technology could be as alien as the Infinite Improbability Drive from hitchhiker’s guide.
Yeah there are just so many unknowns (and indeed, unknown unknowns) that it is kind of hard to say with any certainty what is plausible
