those charities rarely help kids, theyre earmarked for ‘awareness fundraising’ (which they are technically doing) and thus are usually a way for owners of corporations to do tax writeoffs while contributing to one of their family’s bank accounts. all of the donations cashiers ask you for at supermarkets, on tv, etc, are from bogus orgs
Just wanted to chime in and say that it’s not entirely the case that all of those orgs are bogus, but it’s HIGHLY store/community dependent.
My local food co-op has a different local org every month and they’re all halfway decent. I volunteered with an emergency youth shelter/drop-in center that does pretty rad work, and they’re part of a rotation of beneficiaries.
That being said… it’s fucked that we need to rely on that in the first place.

Yeah, all the local shops here do local non profits. The chains donate to themselves
