It makes sure I actually read it and not just scan over it without absorbing it. A microsecond pause every word is a lot faster than reading a passage 4 times in order to understand it.

The stopping at each word is the point of it for me (I do have ADHD). It makes sure I actually read it and not just scan over it without absorbing it.
