      It got really intense around the mid-late 2010s with shows like Steven Universe, Star Vs. the Forces of Evil, Gumball, Craig of the Creek, etc, with the round-cheeked characters with stubby bodies. The term as far as I know, got popular via the John K blog though the CalArts style at that time that John K hated was more 90s Disney style.

      Complaining about CalArts became for me an easy tell that the commentor was conservative, since the complaints really took off as cartoons were becoming more diverse
