I personally don’t think just getting clean energy will be enough to not have catastrophic impacts. We will have to develpo carbon-negative technologies and actively help clean up the planet. So this doesn’t temper my pessimism. Cause realistically as long as capitalism exists as a global hegemonic force. It’s not going to happen because it is not profitable.
The most important thing right now is to actually draw down emissions. As long as the US has a right wing party that denies climate change in office every 4 years it will have to be very economically advantageous to use renewables instead. Climate change is a situation where any country can fairly easily make things much worse in a way that is difficult to clean up (due to entropy of releasing carbon dioxide into the air.)
I think the most important thing is to get rid of the system that’s causing the problem; capitalism.
