Honestly, doing any amount of reading will put you a solid 50% ahead of literally anyone in any industry. I am in computers and I genuinely think that most computer science majors didn’t do any of the reading whatsoever. It’s becoming abundantly more clear as I’m going back for my masters that of my class of say 20 maybe seven actually read part of our required reading.

Your classes have assigned reading? I just graduated from a CS masters degree program a few weeks ago and we barely got assigned reading. There were lecture slides and some optional textbooks we could reference. The only times we actually got assigned readings were for a seminar course where we had to read a few research papers so we could understand how to write papers ourselves, and once during a computer security class where we had to read a research paper and do a presentation on it.

Yeah I don’t think most stupid even read the textbook either. Goddamn our current generation of techno wizards are so screwed.

My intro to CS course had zero assigned readings. Absolutely no reading was given. No student came out with any foundational insight other than the white boomer professors incoherent rambling about how CS is not like math.

Our most complicated problem in that course was opening a file and writing the contents of a nested list into it in Python. Nothing else was taught so its not like anybody could come out from that course and actually program anything (not to mind the professor endorsing chatgpt use while also forbidding its use for assignments which were just writing code solutions to problems that boil down to a map and filter transformation)

My older siblings who now is employed by Amazon had to teach themselves network programming after they were hired to do what is essentially toilet plumbing for AWS.

CS is a joke fucking field and most of these numbskulls actively enjoy it being simultaneously elitist and washed down. Zero materialist thought too, talking to these clowns youd think computers grow on trees or something.

Damn that’s genuinely upsetting. Our education systems are light years behind where they should be

“I dislike LLMs because the societal/material inputs needed to sustain it are not feasible nor are they sustainable”

“Umm, but that doesn’t get you a job cause it’s going to be like… The future broo like coding isnt going to exist anymore.”

This is what my peers sound like. I’m only doing a CS degree because I want to stay an undergrad for a few more years and its my second degree.

Genuinely frustrating and these brainworms have infected Chinese high-tech industries as well. Like stfu China your AI hype train isnt going to fast track commuism (mostly shanghai/shenzhen brainworms)

          Unlimited bullying of all techbros.
