Traveling down University Avenue either walking, cycling, or driving, it’s some of the best infrastructure planning I have seen in the city by far. The addition of the protected bike corridor, the curbs, signage and bus loading platforms all working together.
It would be so counter intuitive for the city to be forced to rip these out.
University Avenue has actually become pleasant to travel along. As a driver I see no negative difference. The avenue still has parking and has two full lanes with dedicated left and right turn lanes, which have become safer and easier to navigate. Additionally there are now dedicated and clearly marked loading and unloading areas.
Rolling the Avenue back would not make travel by car any easier or efficient. The third lane on Universal Avenue like most of the second lanes on Toronto streets are always filled with parked cars or delivery trucks loading and unloading.
The Province should instead be using its energy to get the LRT projects finally open and a clear data should be on the table.

Honestly this is such a waste of resources from the provincial government. Y’all really thought Doug Ford would be the only one capable of standing up to trump during the election? Those who voted anyways, what a joke that the majority of Ontarians didn’t even vote, many didn’t even know there was an election happening or what they were voting for, blows my mind how people can be so clueless in the age we’re currently living in🙄
Pretty much all of Toronto voted against him, with only rural GTA voting for.
It sucks that it’s those that wanted this bastard out are the ones suffering because everybody else thought he was okay because he ignored them the entire previous term, while those who had been suffering his wrath the entire time have to suffer once again because of those completely unaffected by him.
At least Norther Ontario got the message. Too bad that was like five ridings.

I feel like the province should be able to do this, but it’s so asinine that I want them to eat as much shit as possible on it.
It’s just so insane that THIS is something they’re putting resources into… Like really? This and the tunnel? Meanwhile the twinning of the trans Canada through north Western Ontario will cost half as much as that stupid ass tunnel and allow for much safer and efficient transport of goods thought the country and province of were pushing free trade internally.
The tunnel is expected to cost more than high speed rail connecting Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City. It would be the longest tunnel in the world under the widest highway in North America.
And all experts say the tunnel won’t even “fix” car traffic in the city.
OPCs are not fiscally responsible but are savvy at using populism and culture wars to win elections.
You support the court smacking down Bill 212 or the charter challenge?
The province has no electoral mandate to remove protected bike lanes along Doug Ford’s commute.
All ridings where bike lanes were threatened by Ford and his unqualified transportation minister have flipped from conservative to NDP and Liberal.
Bill 212 didn’t get a single delegate in support and experts from every industry have categorically said that removing protected bike lanes will worsen car traffic and increase road death.
He shortened the debate period and rammed it through regardless, tacking on an amendment to shield the province from lawsuits as a result of removing safe infrastructure, an admission of guilt.
The main reason for the charter challenge will be the clause that people can’t sue the government for death or injury as a result of removing the lanes.
Based on his track record, Ford loves to pass laws that later get smacked down by the courts. (I voted orange. It didn’t help.)
