They are going to do this how?
If such backdoor exists then nothing stops criminals from using these same systems.
This smells like a win for organised crime. They only need the right officer on their payroll to get information on what tool/hack is going to be used.
One would presume they are in talks with nso group for pegasus.
Or some similar company that made malware from the FLAME virus used to infect Iranian centrifuges, compromise and spy on their computers, back in the 00’s.
My morning brain read crime ring tones and thought WTF are they going to do with that? Play the Godfather theme?
I imagine Push it to the Limit from Scarface.
That was my second one! Lol
I know Lemmy is extremely pro privacy, but I think as a society we have decided that certain things may require that right to be forfeit. I may be mistaken, but I believe there’s a general consensus that the government having the power to request a warrant to search a property is acceptable. We might not like the current implementation, but the idea is understandable. That being said, I think this is not a bad way to go about it. They must get a warrant, they must only have and use the things covered by the warrant, and they must notify you once they have done this.
My main concern is obviously the method in which they are able to do this. If it’s a backdoor made for the government I think that’s a problem.
Remote access in this case is likely to be Pegasus, the NSO group software that israeli company sells to governments everywhere that abuse it.
The US was even trying to get them into this country, not sure if it went through, first it was for covid tracing, I think prez openly said he wanted the pegasus stuff. Obama blacklisted them from the US at one point, not sure if it’s still in effect but I seriously doubt it.
