Dad didn’t need it anymore, so I decided to break it out. It’s a https://hddfaqs.com/seagate-st2000dl001/ .

You can store a lot of Linux ISOs on such a device!

Might want to redact the serial number from your pictures. The likelyhood that someone could do something with it is low, but better safe than sorry.

As far as I know the worst someone could do is mess with the drive’s warranty status, but it’s a generally good idea to omit unique identifying information from public postings.

Oof, it’s a Seagate. Just make sure you backup your important files!

Regardless of the brand or age, backup is a given part of the process.

      All drives fail.

I’ve had probably 2 dozen spinning HDDs over the last 25 or so years. I’ve only had 2 drive failures, both Seagate, and both less than a year outside the warranty.

Regardless of the numbers from data center reports, etc. showing how reliable they supposedly are, I’ll never trust a Seagate with any of my data again.

I’ve had no Seagate failures in my life thus far, and I’ve got 5 drives from them by now. Backups aren’t optional so I just trust trust the data-center numbers.
