Moldova’s Foreign Ministry recalled its ambassador from Moscow for consultations after a drone crashed in the village of Crocmaz.

The ministry said the incident “represents a serious violation of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” and “threatens the safety of our citizens.”

“Moldova condemns Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its repercussions for the security of our country and the entire region,” the ministry said.

Moldovan police said on August 9 that an explosion occurred near the village of Crocmaz, which borders Ukraine’s Odesa region. Wreckage from a drone was found at the scene. The drone struck a tree and exploded at a height of two and a half meters, or about 8 feet, before its fragments scattered across a wide area, police said. Officials did not specify whether the drone was Russian or Ukrainian.
