Or until the forest is gone, anyway. Most future biome maps I’ve seen have two smaller patches of boreal forest.
It won’t be “forever”. Once the piled up fuel (that’s been accumulating for the past hundred years or so since we’ve taken the stance that all forest fires are bad) are burnt through, we’ll stop seeing these big fires over and over.

Well, that and when the forests don’t grow back fast enough to provide new fuel. I.e. when what was forest becomes desert.
Past mistakes with forest management are only part of the problem.
Grassland comes before desert. There are bits that are coming back as grassland in northern Alberta already.
