I could not find a link to the study in the article, but I generally find Philip Chard’s work to be high quality and insightful having read his columns for many years now, so I trust the information

Better off starving or eating? Study indicates that unless one’s food is what nutritionists call nontoxic, one is physically better off starving.

Not quite the same but I could see a an argument for “if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.” Still, not being in a relationship is better than being in a bad one and I’m sure the exact threshold varies from person to person.

Ironically it is basically a perquisite to be happy on your own before you can find a good relationship. I have known a lot of couples and only a few of them seemed happier together than I am single. If you are miserable then getting involved with someone will just spread your misery, not reduce it.
