  • The statement from the Adelaide Festival board says that it's because of "past statements" by Abdel-Fattah, though they don't cite anything or even mention the nature of these statements. So it's not explicitly because Abdel-Fattah's ethnicity.

  • Also, there's three three-way time-offset junctions in Europe (at this time of year), but they all have 'hard' international borders. If the junctions were in the Schengen Area, then it'd be like Cameron Corner, but I don't think you can legally walk freely between countries (and time zones) at these three points, without using an official point of entry (I might be wrong about that, though).

  • ... he isn’t himself a war criminal any more than Sam Mostyn could be considered a war criminal if Australia were committing an ongoing genocide.

Herzog isn't subject to an arrest warrant by the ICC (Netanyahu and Gallant are), but it's at least arguable he's a criminal under international law for incitement to genocide. Remarks by him form part of the evidence in the ICJ case: https://www.icj-cij.org/node/203447

I think even in the absence of such remarks you could make the argument it's Herzog's responsibility (or Mostyn's, hypothetically) under international law to use the powers available to him to remove the government to prevent genocide.

But yeah, as you say, the statement "the UN has declared him a War Criminal" is factually incorrect in that there's been no finding or warrant against him as an individual.

  • If the alcohol is the problem, there's a lot of non-alcoholic beers available in Australia these days.

Possibly a nitro cold brew? I don't know if you'd consider that a good pairing with a burger, though!

Maybe a switchel, if you make it yourself and don't sweeten it too much, leaving it mostly tart.

  • Incurable once you're symptomatic, and, to be totally clear for anyone not aware, invariably fatal. It's a horrible death, too. Also, the incubation period can be anywhere from a few weeks to two years.

The ABC article could have benefited from making that clearer. It calls the virus 'deadly', but doesn't impress upon the reader just how deadly.

  • You shouldn't touch any wildlife if you can avoid it, but especially not bats!

  • Whether Pocock, individually, is in or out is pretty irrelevant to ordinary Australians, yeah, and there's probably a bit too much of the word count spent on that aspect. However, that MPs' leisure activities are being funded by the gambling lobby and other corporates does seem worth public scrutiny.
