Formerly /u/Zagorath on the alien site.

  • Hoffman was the head pedo and creator of jailbait is just as valid

    No, it is not.

your opinion that it was a joke that he nothing to do with it

    Not the opinion I expressed.

  • He was a mod for a while, but not the top mod. Top mod is the creator, unless the creator quits, passing it off to second mod. And he was mod at a time when anyone could be added as a mod without their consent. No need to accept an invite.

It's bad enough that he was happy to let the subreddit exist for as long as it did even after significant on-site pressure to remove it. The same thing he did half a decade later with the_Donald. The fact that it took mainstream media criticism to be willing to take it down should be scathing enough. We don't need to make up bs.

  • That's cos it's not true. He was a mod of it for a while, but I've not seen any verification of how long that was, and it was at a time when you could just add someone as a mod without them needing to approve it. But he was definitely not its founder.

He did allow it to stick around until the mainstream media started kicking up a fuss about it. That would be bad enough. We don't need to make shit up.

  • That's disappointing. Do you happen to know if fixing this up to work as expected is on the roadmap? Or something they've acknowledged and specifically rejected? Or no idea yet?

I've just come across this quite recent Reddit thread and have to be honest...it's pretty much hit the nail on the head for me. Both the OP and many of the comments. bibober's comment in particular.

If it's just a lack of resources to develop these features quickly enough, that's cool. But I'll be extremely disappointed if they've decided that these are use cases they specifically don't care about.

  • Medicare is means tested

No it's not? That's the whole point of it. It's universal. What Medicare covers, it covers for everyone. And that "what it covers" should be expanded greatly.

All reasonably medically necessary healthcare should be covered, for a very broad definition of "necessary". If it's purely cosmetic, no, but if it relates to real pain or quality of life, it should be covered. The Lasik I got a decade ago is not necessary and I'm fine with it not being covered, but the X-rays, ultrasound, and MRI on my foot due to injury that prevented me from being able to run or walk too briskly without pain were, and should have been covered. (They actually were covered, but at the time I was told it was a temporary thing brought in because of COVID, and would not normally have been.) So should yearly (if not twice-yearly) dental checkups and any procedures arising from that.

  • Like someone else said, there are warnings for the UK. Certainly not a healthy country in 2026, but for the UK to be given a safety warning when the country with literal brownshirts roaming the streets does not is just absurd.

  • I'm a little stuck on permissions. I created a Space for my gaming group to move to Discord, and added a few rooms to it. I'm the admin, but I added a couple of other users as Mods. One of those mods added a Room to the Space. As a Space admin, I would expect to be able to edit a Room within my Space.

Documentation I've been able to find about it is mixed. The Space itself has a setting that says Moderators should be able to manage Rooms:

But various other threads have people suggesting it isn't possible. Nothing clear in the official documentation I've found.

My own experience: I haven't figured out if it's possible or how to do it. I want users in my Space to automatically see all the Rooms, so they don't have to go and look any time a new Room is created. And for permissions on the Space to flow to control over Rooms within it. Is this possible, to your knowledge?

  • Yes.

Scrap the scams that are the Medicare Levy Surcharge and the Lifetime Health Cover loading. They're nothing but government-permitted extortion on behalf of private companies. Scrap them, and add mental and dental to Medicare.

  • So is it some ports support 10, some support 100, and some support the full 1000? Or how does it work with the three different speeds?

  • Have you heard about our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, and his need of your money?

  • Ah that's interesting. Thanks!

    What does 10/100/1000 mean?

  • Those donations are yours and yes, you can claim them on your taxes if you are willing to do the work of keeping the receipt and itemizing your deductions. I do this every single year.

Fwiw in Australia only donations over $2 are tax deductible. So round-up donations probably aren't, unless you're rounding from $47.95 to $50 or something.

  • Well, they're not exactly wrong. Centre-right politicians did betray the west.

By selling out to the far right.

  • Why use the ISP router at all? If your ISP uses IPoE or can provide you the PPPoE connection details, can't you use any router you like?

  • What's the pros & cons of a managed vs unmanaged switch? Or of just running multiple cables out of the router? (Assuming your router has sufficient ports.)

The Pope added a "maximum range/volume" to the blessing of holy water, to ensure no one blessed water en masse. We don't want regular ocean water or toilet bowl water to be holy.
