  • If your leg has a mass of 2kg, 1.1×10^10 J of kinetic energy would require your leg to be moving at about 150 100 km/second not faster than the speed of light.

    TLDR: Their math is shit.

  • I was not saying that it was 95 to 99% of honey is glucose and fructose. I was saying that 95 to 99% of the solutes in that solution are glucose and fructose.

  • Honey is 95 to 99% a solution of a roughly equal proportion of glucose and fructose with other sugars, pollen etc. making up the remainder. HFCS is a solution of ~50 to 55% fructose with the remainder glucose.

TLDR: honey is essentially HFCS with some pollen and a small amount of other sugars mixed in.

  • Chemist (and biochemist) here. Organometallic compounds of Mercury are primarily dangerous because Mercury ions bond fairly strongly to soft ligands like sulfhydryl groups found near the active sites of enzymes. This can result in the displacement of the metal ions or otherwise disrupt the structure needed for enzyme functionality. Mercury metal OTOH is considerably less reactive. It is not safe to breathe in for prolonged periods of time but it is no where near as toxic as its organometallic derivatives are. Dimethyl Mercury for example, is extremely dangerous. A single drop has 100+ times the organomercury content needed to kill someone.

  • I wonder if this compounds in any way for people who've been infected multiple times.

Yes it does. Every time someone gets infected, it does more damage. And a lot of that damage is essentially permanent. eg. damage to blood vessels, heart tissue etc.

  • Jerry antagonized Tom into attacking him more often than not. He viewed it as a game rather than a life or death struggle. Tom OTOH would be kicked out on the street if he didn't try to keep Jerry under control.

  • It could also be she was just a different sort of cat. She had 7 toe beans per foot and was a blue eyed tortois shell. So her liking cantaloupe was probably the least weird thing about her

  • Then why the hell did one of my cats LOVE cantaloupe?

  • Avocadoes contain a compound called persin that is poisonous to them.

  • ADHD I think, falls partly into the "society is partly at fault for not harnessing the strengths of ADHD" and it being a disorder. Its clear to me that the way the economy and society itself are built does a terrible job harnessing human potential but OTOH there are things I must do to function in any society that ADHD makes harder. I need to remember to take my medication or I get sick or worse. I need to put my contact in or Im almost blind. I need to remember to drink or I can become very dehydrated. I need to take care of things around the house and if I have children, do all the stuff needed to make sure they are happy and healthy. I dont have the option of just not doing that stuff.

  • Id argue its a lot more useful for innovation and novelty seeking. Getting bored and finding a new food source or a new hunting ground is useful. Getting obsessed with a bunch of different subjects and tying disperate concepts together to generate new ideas is useful. Staying up later at night to protect the tribe when others would have gone to sleep hours ago is useful.

There are always trade offs and no neural diversity is going to always be useful. Sometimes its debilitating and sometimes its useful. Unfortunately in a world where you are expected to sit still in a gray cubicle under florescent lighting for 9 hours a day 5 days a week until your body falls apart too much to do it anymore, there are more cons than pros. But id argue that the majority that apparently arent driven mad by that dyatopian nightmare are the weird ones.

  • People arent cats. Cats do really well with a food source that doesnt change. (A safe and reliable food source is preferred for the survival benefits that would have provided them in their native habitat) People on the other hand tend to want variety (again for survival reasons but we do that so that we arent too dependant on one specific food)

  • Well the school system isn't very supportive of neurodivergent students so it isn't THAT surprising.

  • Tbh it sounds like thats what you did rather than them. They gave you options and acknowledged your concerns and your response was "lol they didnt even read my post." Yes. They. Did.

  • Therapy, medication, exercise, breaking up large tasks into smaller ones, using timers and reminders to offload some of the burden of remembering to do stuff on to my phone etc.

  • I have an nvidia card too. As far as the graphics card driver not working, if you are running Ubuntu or something similar, the OS does not install all the dependencies for the graphics card driver correctly unless you force the installation of packages that were held back. And if you've made multiple attempts at this, you're probably going to need to remove the prior installation attempts first.

  • You fool! You own an nvidia card! The nouveau driver WILL result in 1/30th the fps that the proprietary card will if it works at all with vulkan.

In other words, it'd be fucking unplayable.

Also "it broke my system" is vague. What did you do and what was the exact result?

  • When I was in junior high there was a project that was worth half my grade that was announced on day 1 and due at the end of the semester. I waited until an hour before it was due to start working on it. I got an A. I can only imagine what I could have done if I had worked on it consistently throughout the semester like a normal person.
