  • What is the most advanced chemistry you've done on your own at home or work?

  • Gold and Tellurium nanoparticle synthesis was the most interesting but I am not sure it qualifies as "complicated" given the procedures we used.

    If computational chemistry qualifies, I have run on the order of 5,000 DFT optimizations+freq and of those, the most complicated ones involved metallocarborane clusters. These are composed of Boron, Carbon, a metal and different groups coming off the cluster. The largest one that I worked on took about a week to run the calculations on my home machine.

  • Years ago I had a 1986 volvo.

    I bought it cheap because it wasn't running at the time but knew what the problem was. So off on a bad foot already but I needed a car.

    1. The sunroof leaked in the rain
    2. There was a bad relay that caused fuses to burn out if more than 3 things were on at once
    3. The wiring in the doors was exposed because there was something wrong with the windows that caused you to not be able to roll them down and the previous owner tried and failed to fix it.
    4. The rotors eventually gave out

  • Does anyone else remember when "they" broke up the anti-work movement on reddit by putting a mod on fox news then dividing the community by creating the work reform sub?

    1. Antiwork accomplished nothing of consequence aside from embarassing itself.
    2. That mod didn't represent a huge chunk of the community that was in that sub which is why people broke off to form another sub that did.

    The sad thing is that all FOX really had to do is let this mod speak on what their beliefs were. No dishonest editing to make them look bad was needed. They did that all on their own.

  • The sad thing is that FOX didnt have to do anything to make this mod, and the community they represented, look bad. They did that all on their own because fundamentally something was very wrong with that sub. It wasnt just people legitimately pissed off at employers, there were people in that community that were very much like that mod and the former didn't want to be associated with the latter.

  • Strattera vs Sleep Deprivation

  • Sleep deprivation prevents the body from being able to effectively repair itself. Thats why if you stay up long enough, you die. Sleep deprivation can exasperate ADHD symptoms. So even if you think it helps your anxiety, I would strongly advise you not to intentionally deprive yourself of sleep.

    Strattera is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It reduces the rate at which norepinephrine is reabsorbed so more of it stays in the synaptic cleft (gap) between neurons. ADHD is thought to involve deficiencies in dopamine, norepinephrine and potentially seratonin in the brain.

    Drugs like strattera result in more norepinephrine which is involved in fight or flight, alertness, concentration and focus.

    Adderal and other stimulants increase dopamine which is involved in motivation and reward

    Drugs like buspirone (partial seratonin agonist) act on seratonin which is also involved in motivation and is better known for its role in depression. While buspirone (buspar) is normally used to treat anxiety, it is sometimes used to treat ADHD off label.

  • I had the opposite reaction to it. I dont usually remember that many of mine but after starting it I remember 2 to 3 times as many of them. Could partially be because my sleep has been interrupted more while on it but even when I do manage to sleep all the way through the night I remember more of them.
