  • The point of ads is to entice you to buy sonething. Theres a higher chance of me buying something I dont remember the ad for than one that I make a point to avoid because of how terrible the ad for it was.

  • As far as the rules are here, yes theyre wrong. Gatekeeping is against the rules. BUT from a clinical and legal POV they are 100% correct. And unfortunately until the person they responded to does get a formal diagnosis, the accomodations and treatment necessary for coping with ADHD are witheld from them. It isnt equitable, it isnt fair, but thats the reality of the society we live in.

  • I remember dealing with Michigan as an insurance agent and man I do not envy you guys' auto insurance premiums :/

  • I know what movie im watching tonight.

  • I feel relieved but no sense of accomplishment :/

  • "Do not gatekeep or diagnose" is one of the rules here. This is not the place for "everyone does x, its not ADHD." The meme sub went further and spelled this out in unambiguous terms in their sticky because so many people do this.

  • Sleep walks: well there goes the neighborhood... and another and another...

  • If you have ADHD, emergencies are common because the dopamine to motivate doing stuff isnt there so the extra norepinephrine from procrastination's consequences finally brings your norepinephrine levels "high enough" to be "normal" (its usually below normal for us) while an average person is going to be swimming in it enough to be paralysed. So the same reason that we tend to procrastinate is also why we tend to be chill when everyone else is freaking out. Not only are we used to those scenarios, our brains are ironically, the only ones that are going to be "normal" during those emergencies.

  • Cyclops and rogue came to mind first yeah. Or imagine xavier having no control over his powers, just turns people into cabbages on accident. Magneto accidentally crushing cars as he walks past them or pulling the pacemakers out of people etc.

  • They don't... do anything! They don't talk about themselves or that side project they're obsessed with (what side project?) or their shower thoughts or... How am I supposed to work with that?

  • Tbf that washing machine looks nasty enough that washing your clothes in it might make them dirtier than they were before.

  • Aside from myself, there is only one other person in my family that has been formally diagnosed as being neurodivergent (autism). I was diagnosed when I was 32. So I found it interesting that even decades before that, I happened to tend to be closer to people that were formally diagnosed with ADHD. The vast majority of my classmates, coworkers and students that I have tutored were very likely neurotypical. But this wasnt true of most of the people I chose to be around.

  • They're formally diagnosed. This is not a case of not having touched grass in too long and seeing everyone and their dog as being neurodiverse.

  • The more PhDs I know and the closer I am to grad school, the more it feels like getting a PhD is about being stubborn than it is about being smarter than everyone in the room.

  • Ngl I didnt realize working from home was one of the accomodations I could ask for. That said... its kind of hard to do almost any job in my field from home (chemist)

  • A superpower most of us have little control over.

  • This reminds me... I should try hallucinogens some time. Just to see what my brain does with them.

  • The whole point of ADHD being diagnosed is that it has become a problem. Enough of one that people wait months if not years on a list to be assessed and pay hundreds, thousands of dollars for that assessment depending on insurance or lack thereof. And because of the pandemic shortages, a lot of people have trouble obtaining medication or in my case, they had bad reactions to specific types and need to find ones that work without those side effects. I was fortunate. My therapist was neurodivergent and made sure that I got support even before I was formally diagnosed.
