  • Agreed, I learned a ton, took way longer than expected, but should last forever. Thank you!

  • Here are some pictures though since I know I won't get around to the writeup very soon

  • Yes I plan on uploading and sharing with a write up on this specifically

  • It probably is overkill structurally, but I had some other thoughts around this.

For the face vise, I wanted some dog holes on the side of the bench so I can rest larger material on dogs and use the vise on the other end. The diagonal brace give me somewhat arbitrary positioning, increasing in height with length. I'll find out if this ends up being useful. So far I've only used the furthest and highest dog hole.

As for storage, I left the other side open just for that. Not sure exactly what that will look like yet. I'll probably add some combination of frequent tools on the vise side and drawers on the open side.

  • It was a great learning experience! Almost all of my joints were too big for the power tools I have, so I got to learn some hand tool techniques. It did take way longer than any YouTube video would suggest.

I just got the same ones I got for my table saw a while back. They work fine once installed, but it's a royal pain to assemble them. I had to get clever with vise grips to tighten the nut.

Adding the bar across is very nice, you get two wheels with one motion and don't need to squeeze behind the bench if it's against a wall. Making it longer than the width of the bench helps catch it with your foot, it can get a stuck flat against the bench when the wheels are disengaged.

    Benchwarming party is tomorrow!

  • Where in the video does it talk about this?

  • I watched it recently. Pretty good. The most interesting part is that they had Brad drive a real F1 car to get the feel of it. There's a youtube video. That's a pretty incredible life experience that he found a cheat code for.

  • Same for me. I want to love it, but the usability is just not there. Moving/rotating the view feels unnatural no matter what settings I used. Not being able to extrude multiple things from one sketch was a big blocker. The external reference import for sketches on an existing surface was unintuitive, slow, and fragile.

  • Fun experiment but not terribly surprising once you think about it. A signal is a signal, not matter what medium it passes through. If it's not distorted and no additional noise is introduced, it should be indistinguishable.

The bigger impact would be from anything that interprets the signal, like and processing/crossover/speaker output.

  • That's a fair point. I think home assistant initiates the connection, but I'm not sure how status updates work from the smart switch to home assistant. Could be home assistant polling, web sockets, or the switch broadcasting.

  • I get the security aspect of it, but in my case I can't see a reason to go through the hassle. My smart switches talk to home assistant running on my server. I want new devices to be able to access the plex server without manual config. And my server is arguably the most sensitive machine on my network, so if I can't protect that, I don't think it's worth protecting anything.

  • So the exploit redirected update traffic. Does that mean anyone who ran updates in that time period could have downloaded a compromised version and their machine would be infected?

Why isn't that covered in the post?

  • Yeah the hardest move on the entire thing was the first overhang with the security camera, and that was V3\5.10. The entire event was well below any kind of test for a pro climber. The solo part attracts a lot of attention.

  • The media was trying to make it sound death defying and extreme the entire time, but any time they'd ask a climber about it, "oh he's chilling."

  • Watching it as a group of climbers was fun because we could shit talk the entire time.

My favorite was when he said the quiet part out loud. "V2 in my gym."

  • Adjusting the depth of cut is kind of a constant thing. I adjust multiple times per board depending on how much I want to take off. It takes some practice to figure out how to deal with slop. If there's no depth wheel, it's even more tricky with tapping

  • Meaning it rips material out? Or the depth of cut is just too deep?
