  • Yeah, exactly. I chose it because it wasnt the biggest, and I wanted to pick a large one with a community but not the biggest, because I wanted to spread the users out on more instances.

I had no clue there was a political agenda in picking an instance, but it makes sense.

Thanks for explaining it in a neutral manner. I dont follow any political communities anyway, so I think I'm good.

  • I think they do actually. They just showed support for Greenland and has publicly said they are slowly breaking away from trade deals with the US.

Europe is the obvious new partner and both sides would benefit alot.

Canada is for sure also looking at the tech side. And with the open source approach from the EU, they too can benefit.

  • Thanks, that's a good explanation. Had no clue the difference between instances was big as most is federated.

  • They still did it for all other reasons than being eco friendly.

They simply just have the minerals and mines for solar and batteries. And the big one is offering the world an alternative for oil, which takes a big chunk into US profits.

We are just lucky that it also means cleaner air for everyone.

  • What is it with lemmy.ml that I have missed? I personally just chose it by pure randomness on a list when I created an account, but I have seen it come up more times now as something negative?

I have no clue what hexbear and lemmygrad is.

  • China is basically what the western world was in the 60-70's where progress were all over the place.

Still behind in terms of alot of things, especially workers rights, but it's not going backwards like it is in the US.

  • :(

  • Brazil and Japan is adopting the "side loading", so it is happening, but slowly.

There's also a few examples of this, that we dont hear about in the media as much, but there's some food quality and plastic standards that spreads.

I also remember something about airplanes and your rights when flights are delayed and stuff, but I cant recall it specifically.

  • Not yet anyway, but it might have a ripple effect on other countries doing the same.

Just like EU consumer laws sometimes gets adopted by other countries a few years later.

  • We could also look for more alliancens who are against the US, calling it "the allied". The US could find a name with a N and a Z and fill in the rest.

  • I love how well thought out the toll was. They accounted for so many things it would have an impact on and got it right even.

It wasnt just a brain dead proposal to gather more money. They actually made an impact for the better and reinvested the money into the infrastructure.

Actually skilled politicans. No wonder their dictator were against it.

  • Because of the US Cloud Act. Try compare that to GDPR.

  • If there are two opinions present on Lemmy, it's already twice as good.

  • If you want to fight for something, please learn what you stand behind.

Battery facilities is the next step in green energy, and I like to see different approaches to this. That is what we need right now.

Will this turn out to be a worse option than what will be invented in 10 years? Almost 100% sure. But did it help us getting to a better place? Yes.

Fuck Google for alot of things though, but it doesnt make sense to do blind hate when they try these things.

  • People are starting to realise that the biggest survilliance state in the world is the US.

And they want you to think it's China or Russia to deflect attention.

  • That's where these rules are coming from. EU made the first move, and countries around the world follows.

It's like this with most laws. But the world depends on the first mover. Right now for everything on consumer protection, it's the EU they look at.

  • Mad thoughts.

The thing that shocked me the most about the US health system is the country uses more money per capita than for example Scadinavian countries, even though it's free there.

And that is without paying for insurance, but what the US government pays alone.

  • Well, yeah. It also took 100x the time to write.

Vibe coding is only really useful for a coder. Because you can understand and correct it.

  • Dental is actually a high focus right now, and more European countries are starting to provide longer care for free because bad teeth is related to many other health issues.

It's basically a net positive to give young people dental than it is to treat them at the hospital for something else later in life.

People from Europe: Since the US is moving away from the western world we know, who do you see us collaborate more with in the future?
