And maybe Trump has made them more comfortable with supplication, but I suspect once they've eliminated some competitions they'll find a way to wriggle out of it (or turn it further to their advantage, likely through using it to control the flow of information or something as pedestrian as tracking ads).
I'm saying that the content companies could weaponise FoMO and say "you can't play with us any more, UK" then the government would probably have to pull back.
And then the other places considering doing something similar would have to do the same. Before it becomes the new standard to have "age" gates.
A lot of them were retired people, and a lot said they had been medics or military before they retired. So it's new demographics coming out on this one.
The home secretary then came out and said some vague stuff about "there's stuff we can't tell you about. Just trust us bro, we're fighting evil with this"
The products I can find on my own. I just need an ad to tell me that the type of product exists (I'm aware that only monopolies would benefit from that kind of as).
I'll be choosing the model/brand on merit. If anything the one being heavily advertised is going to be worse (or at least the cost of the ads is included in the price).
Or it just happens overseas, where these laws don't apply (or can't be enforced).
But I don't think it will happen. Too many countries are desperate to be "the AI country" that they'll risk burning whole industries to the ground to get it.
