Charitably, maybe they meant that western self proclaimed communists getting into Dengism is a response to Trump's victory and aren't talking about Dengism's rise in China way back in the 80s?
I can definitely relate to having a well meaning, but ultimately politically incoherent, liberal dad. My stepdad watches hours of TYT a day and is the kind of person who opposes Trump but thinks the assassination of Charlie Kirk was a bad thing and that cities need more cops. He thinks he's a lot more knowledgeable about politics than he is because he mingled with a lot of politicians when he was a kid due to his mother working for the nearby city's mayor office. He's also got the whole middle aged white guy self-proclaimed history buff thing going on (I don't think I've seen him read a book the entire time I've known him).
It's a shame to see that type of guy exists outside of burgerland also.

Don't be silly. Charlie clearly died of a fentanyl overdose. The bullet just coincidentally hit when the OD happened and had nothing to do with his death.
