I found it...daunting. I couldn't stick with it. maybe it's because I like my RPGs to have a bit of action or random encounters I don't know but I just couldn't get into it. once I found myself skipping text and stuff I figured "welp, there's no point in playing this now".
So yeah I guess I just found it daunting and boring. Just not my cup of tea. If you're someone that enjoyed it, kudos. but personally I don't think it's the greatest RPG ever made.
well to say Xenosaga surpassed it...I mean that's not hard to do.
Xenogears is great but keep in mind it's not finished. the entire second disc is proof of this. It's an unfinished game that is regarded as one of the greatest RPG's of all time. Same with Xenosaga. that's an unfinished series. so to say Xenosaga surprassed it...well yeah it got further along than Xenogears did.

it's always so washed out, every. single. AI. IMAGE. regardless of style they all look washed out and flat. there's zero vibrant colors for anything. One of them just gorged on this "trend" and all the rest of them followed suite eating the slop.
It's gotten to the point now where you don't even need to look at the inaccuracies with something, you just need to look at the colors to tell if it's AI or not.
showing my age but when I was a kid during the summer or on weekends I'd be out of the house all day and just where ever in my town. My parents didn't care as long as I was either home for dinner or by the time the street lights came on. and if I wasn't home for dinner I had to find a phone and call not because my parents would be worried but so they either wouldn't have to cook as much or set out a plate for me.
yeah it's weird cause the music player thing was also a hang up for me too. I liked cmus cause it was simple but some of the things in it annoyed me. I liked Audcacious or whatever its' called cause I could install old winamp skins on it.
Eventually though I just ended up making my own TUI that has all the features I personally want. This seems to be a theme for me and linux. I always find things that have features I like but their separate apps so then I just combine all those features into something I build myself.
believe it or not job security. Restaurants come and go and more often they go. Waffle House only closes if a nuclear bomb has detonated within 5miles of it. If you drive past a closed Waffle House it's probably a good idea to keep driving and quickly.
And the only way to get fired from a Waffle House is if you literally murder someone while working there. So yes the pay is shit but it's consistent shit.
I mean here in Canada why would I go to a bar and spend like $12 on a single pint of beer when I can go to the store and pay the same amount and get like 6 pints?
Back in my 20's when I could go to the bar and pay $1.50 for a pint of PBR, sure it made sense. it was cheaper and i was with friends. I could get drunk on the cheap and have a good time.
now? there's no point. Cheap Dive bars (the ones I used to frequent) are going the way of the buffalo and in my city there's literally like only one left out of the dozens I used to go to all the time. I'm not paying over $10 for a single beer. Plus the patrons that still do go to bars are crap. they all would rather be on their phones then have a conversation at the bar.

generally when you want to install a flatpak it's going to upgrade/update whatever other flatpaks you have installed before downloading and installing the new one.

they did the exact same thing in the porn industry. naturally Visa and MC didn't communicate directly with the individual porn companies. So thats' how places like CCBill and what have you took off. and then Visa and MC laid out their weird rules to CCBill who then passed it along to the individual companies.
I used to live in Tucson, I knew a couple guys at Running with Scissors and yeah this doesn't surprise me. Dudes are pros at getting their names out there free of charge. When there's any sort of controversy of even the slightest thing in the games industry they WILL try and slap Postal on it. it works. they've been around for like 30 years now and have made like what? 4 postal games? and then remastered the others a few times that they had other devs work on. Completely independent too. They're not a huge company but everyone that works for them has been comfortable without much effort for some time now.
Already starting to, at least for smaller companies and startups that were trying to use it to build things end to end.
If you use it to provide you with content, sure, easy no worries. building a website? sure no problem as long as it doesn't require any sort of logins or security stuff. an application? well now you're going to have some problems.
Most AI can't scale something. and most are absolutely horrible at any sort of security. and all of them can't UX themselves out a wet paper bag.
Now if you utilize them as a tool, a sort of rubber duck, sure they're great. The issue is, and I'm seeing this first hand because of my job, is that many smaller companies and start ups aren't doing that. They're assigning someone, a "vibe coder", to feed the thing prompts to build stuff from end to end. Naturally the end product is an insanely resource heavy, convoluted code, exploitable mess that can't scale. It creates a massive amount of tech debt. All to save a couple grand instead of hiring actual devs. So now when I get a call or email from one of my contacts that "so and so's company/start up needs someone to clean up their app because it's very broken due to a vibe coder" I charge them an arm and a leg.
So you're right, it is going to fail and implode on it's own weight but I'm going to damn well be sure to take advantage of these people before it completely does and I encourage other freelance/consultant developers to do the same.
