  • so essentially Colossal is InGen.

  • what's happening is our current system right now is in the process of failing. it's dying, it didn't work and it can no longer sustain itself. Someone once said something along the lines of "When the current system fails, the next one will consist of whatever ideas are left"

So what ideas are left? the ideas of the far right, just like far right ideas are ALWAYS left when a system is about to die. So all these governments, all these wealthy individuals, all these people that have the most to gain are are going start backing the new up coming system. We're seeing it in real time.

But this has happened time and time again. We're a collectively dumb species and love watching repeats. it's always the same song and dance "well lets go this way, sure it didn't work out last time but I don't believe it'll happen to us THIS time".

So it's not so much "what the fuck is this timeline" but rather "well it's our generations turn for bullshit". And it always skips a generation. So the boomers didn't experience it, but their parents did, and now it's our turn. Hopefully our children or our Kids children will be smarter than boomers but...we as humans sure do love watching reruns.

  • soon? it always has been. Does no one remember the whole CDO shit? buying insurance on bullshit loans or packaged loans/debts of quite literally shit? no one knew what the fuck was in those things, literally no one. The rating agencies would rate these things and have no fucking clue what the hell they were. They handed loans out like halloween candy to Americans just to get more shit into these things.

the US Market has been fraudulent for decades.

  • Tin foil hat time but I said last year on Mastodon that the reason EA was killing games like Apex and Battlefield for Linux was that soon Microsoft was going to announce their own handheld and EA has close ties with MS due to EA Play on Gamepass for example. Sure enough less than a year later Microsoft announces their Xbox Handheld with Asus and guess which games will work on that.

Basically it'll be "you want to play Madden and Battlefield on a handheld? well don't buy the SteamDeck, get this Xbox Handheld instead!"

  • you can still play BF3 and 4 with some work arounds. Liam (guy's site that this article is from) posted the other week on his site how to get 3 and 4 working. nothing major at all just a couple extra steps to get it going which is no biggie if you're on linux, you're used to the extra steps.

  • it's funny cause just the other week I found out you can still play 3 and 4 on Linux so I was like "oh perfect! I do miss me some battlefield" I load up steam and see BF1, BFV, BF2042 but I could have sworn I also owned 3 and 4 and I do.....on Origin.

  • expect a lot more of the "ostrich syndrome" from this admin. Can't tell your glorious leader the bad news otherwise you'll lose your job OR eventually, soon, they'll just send you either to florida or the nearest tallest window they can find.

  • really? that's interesting because yeah when I lived in Tucson they were huge.

  • Thank you, appreciate the answer.

  • I think the Doctor Who fanbase is the actual worst out of all fanbases but I still like watching the show. you don't have to participate in the community if you want to use something. I use Linux but I'm not wearing thigh high socks and sitting in the Arch discord all day.

  • I mean aren't they already? pedophiles and/or sex fiends? it's almost a daily thing where you read a story where "such and such conservative found with computer full of child porn or was found rubbing one out in their church/state office"

if someone tells you who they are, believe them. If someone's entire personality/live is based around "fighting" this stuff be it anti-gay, anti-porn, anti-abortion chances are they've already and routinely do it all.

  • it's already happening. A lot of places are now realizing that advocating "vibe coding" and what have you is generating a lot of broken shit and tech debt. I'm a front end/back end dev consultant. been doing it for a couple decades now. and lately most of my contacts have been for fixing or refactoring or straight up rebuilding stuff built by a vibe coder.

Nothing produced by AI scales. None of it is encrypted, everything is exploitable, and eventually it all breaks. Example call I got last week: a startup had decided to set up their own mastodon instance for marketing reasons or whatever. they left the setup and configuration of it to their vibe coder who essentially had Claude Code set it up for them. basically build it out locally then throw it in some dockers for the server. real backwards ass way to do it. The problem is on weekly basis it was completely maxing out the storage on the server, thus it would crash and also crash whatever other instances for whatever they had on their (namely their own Gitea instance). Ends up the vibe coder in charge of setting this thing up either used Claude Code (doubtful) or straight up when to Claude.ai to walk them through the setup process. What was happening was all the images, videos, cached stuff was going into some extra .config dir and that's it. wasn't getting cleaned out, just all being thrown into some random directory and sitting there gradually growing. The fix was painfully easy just clean it out and make sure the cached stuff goes into the proper dirs and as a safety just run a cron job like once a week to clean it.

Digging around same company pretty much set up all their instances for various things the same way. a couple of their apps had major security holes cause AI really doesn't care or know what to do with that stuff. It was a mess.

And it's not just that company. like I said most of my calls now for work are just being a sort of digital janitor for AI and Vibe Coders. And I've dropped these companies some hints saying "look, hiring this dude who touts being a vibe coder is going to cost you way more money and tech debt in the long run then saving a few bucks right now. get rid of them and hire devs that actually know what they're doing." But most of these CEO's and CTO's only think in the short term. A year from now they'll all be collectively fucked. Expect a LOT more stories like the recent Tea App to come out. Everyone's data is at risk currently. I wouldn't sign up for shit using my ID or anything right now.

  • outside the US? not likely. I would even argue they're not even that popular or known in all of the US. but in the midwest and for some reason Southern Arizona? 100%.

I went to high school in Southern Arizona when my family lived in the US and yeah, pretty much everyone at my high school loved them. I liked one of their albums but I wasn't like a face painting merch buying fan. They didn't radio play or anything, it was all word of mouth and early internet stuff.

in college I worked at a local Best Buy and EVERY TIME a new ICP album would come out (which was frequently) we always had to put a couple extra people in the media department cruising the CD aisles and one posted outside the washroom because the Juggalos would constantly come in to steal the album. You could see them coming from a mile away cause they quite literally were advertising the band with all the merch they had on. But they would NEVER pay for the album, it was so odd. like buying a $50 ICP Hockey Jersey? sure. Paying $15 for the new album? no way fam, they're stealing that shit.

  • you seem like an expert and I was actually wondering this yesterday while I was out on a walk cause I tend to think about silly things. So Theropods evolved into birds right? what about Sauropods or like Triceratops? or did they just go extinct

  • I've seen a very similar print out when installing/loading Arch for the first time.

  • oh OH I've seen this episode before!

  • And now the important question: Sir, exactly how many interns have YOU sacrificed to Micorosoft Khorne? how many skulls did you provide for his throne?

  • when I moved to Linux a couple years ago I felt the exact same way. I dont' know how old you are but maybe you remember that feeling logging into win 95 or 98 for the very first time and falling in love with computers and what they could do.

I hadn't felt that way in decades and when I switched to Linux it made me feel like I was a kid again in the late 90s with my very first PC. Switching to Linux made me fall in love with Computers again.
