New people also keep showing up to the argument, and so they miss all of the context, and do things like criticize things she didn't say, or give criticisms that she already addressed.
Like one of her very first food posts that started this long chain was recommending making rice in a cheap rice cooker.
I mean, she also said she avoids basically all sauces since they tend not to be healthy, she just seems to have something of a preference for "simple" food.
She also did literally address that different people have different staples, and she's repeated that she's talking about around her, in America
I don't understand people telling her that White People tacos aren't a thing, and that nobody puts black olives in their tacos. Refried beans and black olives in tacos is something I've had family, friends, and family friends do for literal decades. We didn't call it White People tacos, but they definitely weren't anything like original tacos.
Her takes are a little weird, but I think Twitter has wildly blown it out of proportion. The original thing was mostly just her saying she barely seasons her food. A lot of people have put words in her mouth too, like "high end". I don't think any of this Twitter drama matters, at all. It's been going on for days.
Even college students did 6-7, I've seen it. It might've started with Gen Alpha, but it spread to Gen Z, who are as old as like 30 now.
But the real issue is that it's too little, too late. They could've pulled 6-7 off if it was earlier, and perhaps if they made the 6-7 reference actually make sense.
I'm hoping they keep changing the name to stay relevant. If they're led by GenZ they should understand the meme-cycle.
I'm not really hoping tho, because I don't care about the Kamala Harris Gen-Z led hub for progressive content. There's already some amazing progressive and socialist content groups that they should just boost instead, like More Perfect Union. They put out a ton of high quality content that's genuinely very left-wing, but at the same time they do a good job of making it appeal to the common person. PSL actions have been the focus of a number of their videos, but usually they just name the front group, while still showing footage of PSL people in PSL shirts, with PSL signs.
They only think that because they deserve to get dunked on. We didn't have any federation for years and years, and so couldn't really do any dunking. Currently we have very minimal federation, and so can't do all that much dunking. So really, dunking is a very small amount of our culture, and most of our criticism of people is against things not on lemmmy, about people that will likely never see that criticism, which isn't really dunking, and definitely isn't trolling.
They are viewing it through the myopic lens of their own self-actualization. They get dunked on, they get trolled, so they think Hexbear is all about trolling and dunking. They don't actually engage with us, so they don't see that we have a massive chunk of people focused almost exclusively on news. We are probably 1/3 news posting and analysis site, with no trolling at all. For the rest of our posting, the vast majority of it is still internal, and we generally don't troll each other. So badposting, the trans mega, the daily mega, it all counters their narrative. We also have a book club (two sorta, lol), and a big movie club.
We dunk in Slop, and troll in other instances (generally counter-trolling, often we don't troll first). Slop is tiny compared to News and the rest of our site. Hexbear could stop dunking and trolling completely, and the vast majority of Hexbears would barely notice the difference.
If anyone actually wants to understand Hexbear, they should lurk Hexbear for a good long while. They would see we aren't trolls, we barely care about the rest of Lemmy, we care about communism.
Yeah, Death to America originated during the 1979 Iranian Revolution, in which communists participated. Even though some communists got purged, and the others fucked up by working for Iraq (communism in Iran has recovered from neither), critical support to Iran is important. They oppose American imperialism, and Israeli genocide, something very, very few countries can say. Sanctions on Iran also largely just hurt the normal people of Iran, and American/Israeli aggression against Iran is brutal. Lots of normal working people oppose those actions against Iran, including parts of the Republican Party.
Iran has never attacked American soil, and doesn't support any terrorist organizations that have. They and the Axis of Resistance have actively fought terrorist groups that have attacked America, fighting al-Queda, fighting ISIS, fighting al-Nusra, and fighting HTS. They even opposed a US-backed authoritarian that used chemical weapons on civilians, one Hussein, Saddam (lol), before the US ever opposed him.
By comparison to Iran's opposition to those awful anti-American terrorist groups, Israel actively worked together with al-Qeuda. Israel provided them air cover, maps, air support, logistics support, a training camp, and even treated their wounds, and let them out to continue fighting. Remember, al-Nusra was literally a part of al-Queda until 2016. Iran has done more to protect the American people than Israel. And this is 2015, so al-Queda literally just did the Charlie Hebdo shootings in France, the the people in AQAP, that claimed responsibility, were literally in al-Nusra leadership, it was just a slight rebrand with all the same guys.
If America stopped interfering in the Middle East completely, they'd be dead to Iran. Their combat with America has been focused on getting them out of the Middle East, getting them to stop supporting Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing, and staying sovereign. They have only fought American soldiers that are most definitely in places they shouldn't be, doing a colonialism/neo-colonialism. American soldiers in Israel, in Lebanon, in Syria, in Iraq, and to a lesser extent in the Gulf states, are really all valid targets, they should not be there.
Message from a Dad to a high schooler I know through orgs/politics/protests. He approved sending, but maybe don't spread it everywhere so the Dad doesn't find it, The rest of the message is also pretty bad, but it has personal details. The Dad is not a good guy, he yells a lot at his wife and children, apparently. Used to do corporal punishment, but it was legal, really only stopped because the kid is very close to adulthood.
i don't think that'd be all that practical, but if they could do a somewhat Houthi style blockade, but in the Mediterranean, I think that could do some real damage to Israel, and have a bigger effect than what they do right now.
I hope they'll get to a point where they aren't just donating vessels to Israel, and getting arrested. It's just like how we criticize liberals in America that show up to a protest with the specific goal of being arrested, they can be cool people that believe the right thing, and they can be doing more than basically anyone else in the West, but that doesn't mean it's a perfect strategy.
New people also keep showing up to the argument, and so they miss all of the context, and do things like criticize things she didn't say, or give criticisms that she already addressed.
