orbitz@lemmy.catoHacker News@lemmy.bestiver.se•Texas Man Gets 30 Years in Prison for Transporting 'Anti-Government' PamphletsEnglish
4·4 days agoWasn’t it 30 days for the deal Ken Paxton (Texas attorney general, running for higher office too I think) made for his buddy? Nothing like being tough on crime and protecting the children. Okay I googled, guy was.Adam Hoffman, and didn’t have to register as a sex offender even.
Crap they really took ‘wont someone please think of the children’ line too literally.
Maybe something I missed for the 30 days but still, Ken Paxton is attorney general and let the guy off with a slap on the wrist. Good going tough on crime party. Maybe next time you can let him browse an elementary school sleepover rather than let his indictments sit stale. Oddly he’s been under indictment but protected due position. Funny that. Course Texas would never fucking vote Democrat maybe let some bad folk in.

2·9 days agoI just assume the world wasn’t being fucked up fast enough for them so they voted in a Trump card, so to say. I so want to channel my inner Red (that 70s show) at them. Bunch of dumbasses, and even if they voted him in they can get him out of they truly wanted.
Also while listening to William Gibson’s jackpot trilogy recently (think it’s still unfinished) makes me keep thinking were in the run up start to the worst impacts. Mean. They voted in the guy who removed the team watching for viruses before COVID, then they again vote in the guy who’s now causing an energy and economic crisis…like it’d be nice if they didn’t vote in someone that doesn’t actively fuck up the entire fucking world again. Thankfully they’re kneecapping themselves now but unsure how much it’ll matter.
Guess the oligarchy will be happy for this to pick the bones of what is left while they live rich.
If you haven’t read the novels let’s just say it doesn’t turn out well for the average person though it’s not involved with the book plots. I do recommend them though if you enjoy sci Fi.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Fido Hits Recent Promo Customers With a Price Hike After Just 3 Months
2·11 days agoI’m confused, I used to sell cell phones, even did customer service for AT&T at a call center but that wouldn’t be relevant to Canadian rules. I thought they couldn’t increase the price on a proper contract? Or was it not a contract and Fido just increased it cause they were douches or have rules changed?
Okay I couldn’t wait and looked. Guess plan price is not included so assume it’s just a fancy payment plan…i was used to the standard contract but I guess I see why the budget carriers are budget now. They’re generally cheaper per month still, been enjoying Koodo since I ditched Rogers cause they lied to me.
Least it’s been long enough for when Koodo lies I’ll feel semi okay to switch back to Rogers carriers. Cause I know that’s the issue when you have standards with 2 real carriers. Unsure if Bell counts as a third since they use Telus towers but whatever.

6·12 days agoFinding new Mozart material? Fucking awesome! For a guy who wrote his first symphony at age 8, I was playing with GI Joes and Transformers at the time.
Still trying to understand music properly at nearing 50 myself, let alone understand how to make many instruments sound well together if even not making something anyone wants to hear hundreds of years later.
Course not my profession at least just a hobby.

World News@quokk.au•Zelenskyy gives Belarusian ruler a week to remove Russian drone relays: Otherwise we will do it ourselves
5·13 days agoDidn’t that Russian cockholster of a leader just say they weren’t enemies of Ukraine too? Or something similar. Funny how that works…oh no you’re awesome I’d never hurt you motions to friends hurry up and get that shit ready when no one is looking
I imagine this time it was drone relays while he made that public statement. Like Russia even cares about them or their leader.
Hah that was the leader saying how awesome it’s be a Russian Colonel too if I recall. Least something that sounded as odd…unless you’re one of Putin’s cockholsters that is. Mean to each their own but I doubt the citizens care too much for his submission.
Only the lucky ones. Actually I dunno, Im mostly familiar with the spiral types, lived in one for awhile but haven’t checked out many others yet. Well once had a good look at Andromeda and it was a looker for sure, but nowadays I go to sleep to early

Games@lemmy.world•What is a game that you know is bad but really enjoy(ed)?English
3·14 days agoI played for awhile a couple years back and it was fun. I owned it for awhile before but didn’t put serious time till then for whatever reason. I think the general consensus is that it definitely improved over the years since release. I never did anything but solo things too so the harder content was still nothing I checked out.
I think they got a lot of the major bugs out but given it’s a fallout game there’s plenty more I assume.
Last I played storage sucked without the subscription for the gathering box which is a big downside cause I love to pick up crap.
I knew it was a box think I first saw it when curious about a hardware kodi (say 15-18 years ago?) back when they were newer. Though I just wanted something to show me what I have in my network, never used the other streaming on it, maybe missed out I dunno.
Oh I replied cause I wanted a device/program to have a nice browsing interface for my owned files, and having a program with ads? Big nope. Mean maybe I missed out but nothing I’ve read seemed overly interesting when I just wanted a nice interface. Now just use a PC with Kodi for my stuff with browsers / apps for streaming, works well enough. Probably pay too many services but not the only one in the house.
If I could never see another ad I’d be so happy heh south Park flashbacks.
I agree, as a Canadian even if not perfect I couldn’t imagine having a pay system or even what the US calls healthcare. That’s the point of taxation, we get roads that are drivable, healthcare that is affordable and stuff like food standards, clean drinking water, education. The billionaires are trying to say everyone else doesn’t need such things so they can get a bigger nibble of the pie when they already have truckloads.

World News@quokk.au•Gordie Howe bridge opening scuttled after Trump officials pushed back
4·18 days agoDefinitely, Trump’s beak wasn’t wet enough even if he just dived into the water. He’s had a taste, everyone treats him with kid gloves…so ask for more, and more…you thought that was enough? Nope a bit more. Fat fucker is gorging himself on the world’s economy and the US lets him get away with it.
Ya ya I know work and shit but the orange turd has flushed away all credibility of the US and still continues. Basically allowed themselves to be a rogue nation, when you feel Iran is the creditable party then you know you all fucked up. That was months ago. And here we are.
He just wants his mob boss kickback as standard for bosses and orange piles of shit. I’d probably take a random mob boss over Trump they’d have some restraint and decency.

6·18 days agoHaha he’s so used to his deals being unknown so he probably can’t accept one less than Obama’s previous deal since itll be public. Hard to spin the cash they’re giving them when numbers are known.
This is your bed you lay in it, unfortunately a position Trump will never accept. Mean hopefully he does for everyone else but that alone means nothing for Trump…the great deal maker, the bastion of making a deal, apparently he made an art of it or something by being the best bullshitter.

3·21 days agoAs old as I am, started watching who in my late 20s few years after the reboot, I agree. They were what was needed then, but not what is needed now.
I haven’t even finished Jodie’s episodes, been sort of not as grabbed by them or the companions. I didn’t even enjoy Capaldi overly but I liked what they tried with it but something didn’t quite hit the mark. Maybe need to rewatch them I stick to earlier ones usually.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•Dammit, Jim! I'm a doctor, not an Asgardian/Judge/Doomguy!
9·24 days agoI was going to comment on that, he played a commander of riders of Rohan that did his best to support his king. Not that I don’t like his other roles but I thought being involved in lord of the rings was worth mentioning with the rest. Wait the Doom movie was mentioned but not Lord of the Rings? Huh…never watched Doom, played it tons when it was new though.
Such a great actor, he tends to improve any movie I’ve seen him in. Like if the role was poorly cast it may not be memorable but alright movie (well depending on which one, Dredd maybe not) but he’s definitely memorable in his roles.

Reminds me of a line from Schnidlers List (movie) where he says he had so many failed businesses, what was missing? War. Though I think Japan is supplying the wrong side for sure.
