People who only understand grunt level coding work are at risk. The work in the future will require higher level skill sets in engineering, architecture, and project management.

  • My company has internally hosted AI. I use the web interface to copy/past info between it and my IDE. So far I have gotten best results from uploading the official Python documentation and the documentation for the framework I am using. I then specify my requirements, review the output, and either use the code or request a new revision with information on what I want it to correct. I generally focus on requesting smaller focused bits of code. Though that may be for my benefit so I can make sure I understand what everything is doing.

  • Yeah. Do some therapy and you will find out lots of things you "just do" are adaptations to compensate for ADHD. Shifting to healthier ways of doing things can be tough. It's hard to let go of habits that have "worked so far".

  • I find doing CrossFit multiple times a week helps at night. Turns out if you are sufficiently physically exhausted the thoughts tend to slow down. But if they don't that's fine because you are liable to pass out as soon as you stop moving.

  • The trick is to do both. You objectively accept your limitations and plan around them. You objectively accept flaws and work to improve towards your personal goals without emotionally flogging yourself. To bad doing this requires a bunch of skills, practices, and mental strength we are bad at.

  • Yes, I accept that is the nature of the beast for a publicly traded company. But I have not heard stories about my company playing stupid games like that. Probably because they are big enough that it would create legal risk and they know they will probably want to rehire some of the people getting layed off some time in the future.

  • I'm sad that was necessary but happy your group was successful with it. I am fortunate in that the managers I work under are of the mindset, "Your an adult. If work is getting done to quality/schedule requirements and people can get a hold of you when needed, then I don't care how you schedule your time."

  • I think that is a literal storyline in Belgarath the Sorcerer. The wizard, Belgarath, spends thousands of years monitoring and manipulating various family lines. One of those is a line of dryads who are tiny and all female. He was "forced" to mate with them or they would kill him with bows, but he didn't really complain about it. He is able to avoid these "conflicts" in the future after discovering chocolate makes them orgasm.

  • This is an area where AI can be helpful. Tell the AI what Linux distro your on and what you want to do. Most of the time it will give you pretty good answer. If you don't understand what it is telling you to do, ask it to explain the thing in detail. Most important thing though is to always verify what it tells you before you run stuff. Google search specific commands or use the "man" command to get documentation. The key thing is the AI can make you aware of CLI commands and tools more easily then trying to find what you need on your own.

  • I think you are making it more complicated than needed. If you just want reliable service, just figure out who has the most reliable Internet and power and they can host the server. If you want to learn kubernets or docker swarm, you can try that but it will take a ton of upfront work.

    Edit: Also get a UPS for the server.

  • I used anxiety as a adaptive response to my ADHD and learned to use being productive as a self soothing technique. Need motivation to do a task, have anxiety about it. Want to make sure you don't forget something, just carry constant anxiety about it. The breaking point caused me to develop acid reflux. The improvement was started with HealthyGamerGG videos, which led to getting medication and therapy. This is still a work in progress. Replacing a habit of thought is a process that takes many repetitions.
