  • Not that laws matter, but it's a pretty clear violation of the Hatch Act.

  • When I was a kid, I thought Iceman was a jerk. Now that I'm older, I realize Iceman was right all along.

  • Yeah, but did no one ask, "So, uh, who you running from?" Why would the El Aurians not tell them?

(Of course, the El Aurians may have been fleeing something else.)

  • Huh. Thanks. I thought it was necessary to meet fire code.

  • Isn't there usually a concrete wall or something between townhouses? (I've never owned one, so I don't have firsthand experience.)

  • I just saw this video clip while watching last night's Kimmel. Trump was furious - look at his expression in that picture...because an escalator stopped. The smallest of setbacks drives him to a crazy level of fury.

Like Kimmel said, "If only that had happened 10 years ago."

  • Let's not forget that the energy ribbon swings by very close to Earth every 37 years or something like that, yet it seems to be a complete surprise.

Also the two ships were transporting El Aurian refugees, which opens a whole new set of questions. Refugees...from the Borg?!

I still like the movie though.

  • Fun fact - this is what Data's Day was actually about.

  • I had to turn off the lane assist in our Mazda for that reason. It was constantly steering me back toward obstacles I was trying to avoid. I cursed it many times.

Other false alarms are frequent enough that I'm starting to ignore the alarm, so when it actually catches me in a mistake, I'll probably ignore it then, too, and be in a crash.

  • In fairness, for the last one, she says they're the closest ship, not necessarily the only ship.

I remember a list of things you never see on Star Trek, and one item was, "There's a nearby emergency, but another ship is available and can deal with it to everyone's satisfaction."

  • I have a masters degree in statistics. This comment reminded me of a fellow statistics grad student that could not explain what a p-value was. I have no idea how he qualified for a graduate level statistics program without knowing what a p-value was, but he was there. I'm not saying I'm God's gift to statistics, but a p-value is a pretty basic concept in statistics.

Next semester, he was gone. Transferred to another school and changed to major in Artificial Intelligence.

    I wonder how he's doing...

  • Yeah, I just wanted to clarify that it wasn't a judge or jury that made them pay that. They settled.

    1. Restricted airspace. They'd never fly in the immediate DC area, for example - it's mostly a no-go zone with exceptions for National Airport and College Park Airports. The restricted zone actually extends beyond the beltway - which excludes the space where traffic is worst and flying cars would be most useful. (Freeway airport in Bowie has a section of the restricted zone carved out for it, but the airport is closing.) Even if you are authorized to fly into the zone, it's not as simple as, "Hey today I need to drive to Georgetown."

DC might be an extreme example, but I assume many cities have restrictions on flights above them.

  • Especially considering how CBS’ parent company went to court first before cancelling Colbert.

...and settled. There was no verdict. They settled.

  • Something along the lines of how MAGA is doing everything they can to show it was a liberal that did it, when we all know it's MAGA.

(I know that Kimmel may be wrong, I'm just reporting what he said.) I'm pretty sure that's the line that did it.

  • When I upgraded the desktop and laptop machines, I didn't run into many issues. Had to reinstall the Nvidia drivers on the game machine. And deal with glances, but I mentioned that before.

I'll probably update the server to 13 next week.

I had to rewrite part of my php-based photo management system, as it relied on a library that was originally written for php 4 or 5 and hasn't been updated. Fortunately that wasn't too hard. There might be other things lurking like that, but they aren't critical problems - I can deal with them at leisure.

  • Did you go straight there, or go through 12?

  • Hey. I'm going through this right now. My server was 11, and I wanted to go to 13. I definitely didn't want to get into a situation where the server required hours and hours of repair.

I'm halfway there. The upgrade to 12 went smoothly. The biggest headache was glances, first from the lack of web interface (which I was ready for), and the lack of RAID support (not ready). I might do the switch to 13 next week.

  • That's a lot of effort just to Rickroll us!

Seriously, nice work. I'm always hesitant to use something like this because it's another thing that can go wrong. But the idea is really cool.
