  • Yeah, this take isn't really exclusive to AI either, luxury products have always involved the best artists and artisans. Generative AI is just exposing the soullessness that has always existed but was masked by underpaid human artists.

  • Falls suggests that people don’t seem to believe librarians when they explain that a given record doesn’t exist

This happened to me at my job, someone called in asking about something that didn't exist and never did, and insisted with me that I was mistaken when I said we didn't have it. When I asked where they got their information they said "ChatGPT" and when I suggested GPT was hallucinating they didn't seem to understand the term.

Having that exchange IRL with a real human bring honestly kind of shook me up.

  • That's better put than I did 😂

  • Ed frequently comes off like a guy ranting outside the gas station but goddamn is it hard to find an issue with with his conclusions.

  • Yeah, I mentioned this elsewhere too but she’s actually remained pretty ideologically consistent (terrible but consistent) in her brief political career. From her perspective, it's Trump that moved away from her (or at least revealed himself to be away from her) politically.

  • While I am no fan of the Times and absolutely don't think that she deserves a big splashy feature on their front page, it truly wasn't a puff piece and definitely not sanewashing. Here are a few examples:

“Robert,” she replied with a searching look, “do you really think Joe Biden got 81 million votes without even campaigning?” “Yes,” I said. “They counted all the votes. That was the final tally. Why wouldn’t I believe it?” The look she then gave me, which I will never forget, was one of bottomless pity.

    And

Just outside the front door of her office stood the familiar placard blaring, “There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE.”

    And

Trump, she claims, was bothered by her steadfast opposition to abortion, which she has called “murder.”

    And

[...]she continued to characterize Trump’s Democratic opponents, and their positions, in the direst of terms: “radical communist Kamala Harris,” “the perverted trans agenda against children that is an attack directly on God’s creation,” “the party of pedophiles.”

As the article OP posted said, she has said many other even more batshit things that should not be forgotten but that's not really what the Times piece was about (it was about her fight with Trump).

  • The NYT piece did not call her savvy. The author did say "shrewd".

Greene did harbor a genuine conspiratorial streak, often even wondering if this or that person wore a wire. But she was also becoming an increasingly shrewd and acerbic observer of life on Capitol Hill.

  • I am loathe to defend her, but she's actually remained pretty ideologically consistent (terrible but consistent) in her brief political career. She came into office with Qanon beliefs and wanting the Epstein Files to be released and anti vax nonsense and now she no longer is in the Qult but she's still talking about the same things.

  • Yeah (I can't believe I'm saying this) but in Marjorie's defense she described herself as "naive", and that is also the quote the New York Times put in the banner.

It sounds like she is having a literal come to Jesus moment but I also think the readers of the Times are high enough IQ to know that that doesn't erase the past actions.

  • Nothing wrong with Ubuntu, but it's interface is definitely geared more towards Mac folks.

My recommendation for someone making the jump to full time Linux is Fedora Kinoite. It's "immutable" meaning impossible to break, and uses KDE Plasma, which is like the modern Windows you've always wanted.

Again nothing wrong with Ubuntu, it's great and will run on the hardware you mentioned, but if you are someone who wants to tweak settings without fear of breaking something somewhere else, I really recommend Kinoite.

  • This is what's funny to me, "AI" investors must know on some level these products don't actually work the way the companies claim, because if they did they would crash, not help, the economy as it exists now.

  • Yeah but until two months ago Spotify was 24kbps

  • I wonder why Spotify and not YouTube Music, Tidal or Apple Music all of which are higher quality.

  • Ha! Yes so true.

  • Most of my 2025 was Silksong actually, but for only $20 it felt like a patient gamer moment!

  • I'm going to be that guy and point out that LLM's are not really "AI", that's just the corporate buzzword but "AI" is a loosely defined thing.

I think we should all get better at calling them LLM's publicly to take some of the magic woo-woo away.

  • Helpful! Thank you I will look into it.

  • Weird, I don't have a new AI sidebar and I'm running the latest version.
