  • Nope, its worse. 1$ is worth far more in a poor person's pocket than a rich one. Taxation atleast tries to be more fair by taxing based on income.

  • In general I agree with you, but I would refrain from using evolution/DNA example. Because then it leads to 'social darwinism'.

Evolution does not mean 'more evolved is better' but rather 'more suited to the environment'.

Take psychopathy (or even apthy towards minority groups) as an example, in a capitalist system, psychopathy is more evolved because you get to climb the corporate ladder faster.

But this assumes that capitalism is unchanging, and final form of our society. But in reality, we can change the system. Under socialism or social democracy (with strict laws), psychopathy would no longer be 'more evolved'.

  • To be more precise, i was alluding to capitalism

  • If we just focused on maximizing profits, it would efficiently allocate all the resources among the people. And if this system does cause inequalities, then it must be coming externally from outside the system.

  • I just think it is more efficient to say 'huh?' Than to attempt at answering incorrectly. If the brain can figure out the question, with enough context, you can just answer it before they repeat. Otherwise you just have to listen again.

I think our brain already figured this out and do this on its own

  • Israel needs a political purge.

  • I have a comment kinda unrelated to this situation.

Since around 1960s there has been dominant idea that words don't have meaning in relation with reality but rather with other words or discourse in the society. So war can be peace, they would argue, because 'peace is a social construct'. And its validity depends only on the discussion around it in society and not on any material reality.

This is why calling it a genocide has always been so important for us. And at the same time denying it is so important for israeli media.

  • 'discover' in the meme and in your comment don't have the same meaning. But if this was a competition of who can use a dictionary, you would have won for sure.

  • I think you are overlooking all the global protests that happened. Italian workers shut down docks, australia also had massive rallies, global sumud flotilla and greta thunberg, all of it made it impossible for major powers, including but not limited to trump, to continue this war.

  • Abundance comes from advancement of tech and tools, not just from labour.

If only the "40 hours a week" people deserve to live outside poverty then this exclude many other people who are without a doubt productive for society and even capital.

Many scholars never got money from their contributions, they didn't even get recognition within their life. They for sure contributed positively to the society. Yet their works was not included in "40 hrs work week".

Housewives also provide labour without which the society can not function, they are also within this categories.

Open source devs also don't get paid for their work. Yet their hobby does in fact lead to productivity.

By restricting our definition to "40 hrs work week", we overlook many of these segments.

  • Consider an example of a women, who does not work but raises childern and perform other chores to support her husband.

She is quite important in contribution to the society, but when we talk just about working people, we overlook her.

And I am sure there are many such people who are critical for the function of the society, but do not "make money" (i,e wage labor nor even owning capital for that matter)

This is why, IMO, this distinction of "people who work" is counter productive. Everyone should be able to live without poverty.

  • It does not apply here to smth that is this fundamental. Living outside of poverty for everyone, is very fundamental and basic, not smth that should ever be compromised upon

  • If only there were some security researchers who routinely release and audit open source implementations of encryption and data safety programs.

The world would be so much better if people just trusted for-profit organizations instead of actual humans. Cuz all our modern crises like climate change, pfas in water and other ecological crises were caused by individual humans. Not these shareholder backed for profit organizations

  • One of them is still sailing, marienette. Last update 17 mins ago.

  • 23 so far :(

  • Taxing incomes only put the burden back on the working people. Rich will always find loopholes to avoid tax. Whether through subsidies or off shore companies.

If we have to stay within the system, we should be implementing wealth tax instead of incomen tax. But it still leaves the option of foreign citizenship and they just owning stuff in a country without wealth tax

  • There are 2 parts when it comes to changing the system:

    1. People's consciousness needs to be aware on the necessity of the change in the system.
    2. Actual revolution.

Saying statements that call to action may not be doing 2 but they still help with 1
