Watched a new leaf (1971), extremely funny movie. Apparently the writer/director/actress (Elaine May) influenced Bill Murray, Steve Martin, and David Letterman, and it really shows. Also I realize those comedy styles are pretty distinct but it kind of is a synthesis. It’s like slapstick dry irony. Absolute cinema.
