Beyond moving things forward, and refreshing your memory if this were still OTA tv era, the clip shows there and in a few other shows reminds you of a few disparate plot threads that come together in the coming episodes. It’s very well done in the stargate series as the briefings are a very natural narrative structure for that goal though.
I’m sure this is the case with any combination monster-of-the-week and plot based show in the 90s and 00s, but I think Stargate shows always had those briefing clip shows before a major plot point came together, and they always had a bottle episode before an episode with an expensive set piece.
I think some men in my office think the napkin button on the tampon dispenser is for literal napkins because there’s always a box of pads at the bottom.
