  • Freeze? Nah, it'll keep chugging along 'til you reboot (or otherwise try to run a new program), and then won't be able to start.

  • What's really stupid about limiting e-bikes by wattage is that it discriminates against cargo bikes. Limiting by capping assisted top speed makes much more sense.

  • Home Assistant has been heavily working on that sort of functionality lately.

  • I just want to know because big Youtubers actually supporting Peertube themselves is way better than the content merely being mirrored.

  • If you want something more portable, you may be able to get your hands on a Walmart onn. TV Box 4K (2021) and install Lineage OS on it

I got a couple of those after the LTT video about them, but still haven't gotten around to rooting them/setting them up. Now, because I procrastinated so long, I can use LineageOS instead of the rooted stock ROM (I think?) that was being used at the time.

    Thanks, kind Internet stranger!

  • Is Gamers Nexus on Peertube itself, or was this posted by an unauthorized third party?

  • In slightly less than half the states (TIL—I thought it was most or all of them), the electors were chosen by the state legislatures, not using any sort of popular vote at all.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1788%E2%80%9389_United_States_presidential_election

States had varying methods for choosing presidential electors. In five states, the state legislature chose electors. The other six chose electors through some form involving a popular vote, though in only two states did the choice depend directly on a statewide vote.

Arguably, that system (along with the pre-17th Amendment method of choosing senators) had better federalist separation of powers, by giving more importance to your state-level representative(s) instead of letting those things be a popular vote.

  • Hey judge, why the fuck is it "scolds" and not "dismisses the case?"

  • The belatedly-realized fact that dams sometimes screw up downstream habitat doesn't help either.

  • You're going to have a hard time finding fully-waterproof sneaker-style shoes because the nature of a sneaker implies holes for ventilation and a slit between the tongue and the upper.

I'm aware these aren't what you asked for, but since that doesn't exist you might have to consider them anyway:

You could get some cycling shoe covers, although they're intended to go over roadie cycling shoes for use with clipless pedals (3-post cleats), not regular sneakers.

You could also get mountain-biking shoes (2-post cleats) or trail-running shoes, but they won't be fully waterproof.

Personally, when I was commuting a decent distance by bike (far enough to justify using clipless pedals), I wore cycling sandals when it was warm enough and mountain-biking shoes when it wasn't, and then changed into dry non-athletic shoes that I kept at the office.

  • Neat, thanks!

I'm not thrilled about the camera quality (compared to a purpose-built surveillance cam with 4k and good low-light performance) and I wish it had PoE, but damn, can't beat that price!

(Side note: does anybody else find it weird that PoE is so uncommon and/or adds so much to the cost of these IoT dev boards? I get that normal people don't want the hassle of running cable, but it feels like the hole in the market is bigger than it should be.)

  • Framework Desktop 64gb

I wonder how that compares to my mini-ITX Ryzen 5700x3D/9070XT/64GB system. I guess yours is even smaller and better at running LLMs due to the unified memory, but mine is probably cheaper and better at gaming.

  • Tell me more about your homebrew esp32 cams, please!

  • How you gonna get the video feed off an IP cam and onto your NVR without connecting it to your network?

You're not seriously suggesting using old analog cameras in 2025, are you?

  • One time I was traveling in Maryland and made the mistake of ordering sweet iced tea. They gave me iced unsweet tea and sugar packets! WTF was I supposed to do with those?!

Horrible experience, 0/10, do not recommend.
