  • Look, folks in the US are extremely on edge about this election (that's both currently happening through early voting and the last day possible within 2 weeks), and in particular, foreign interference/propaganda. There's a lot of crap we're getting from every angle under the sun trying to get "the right people" to vote and "the wrong people" to stay at home, depending on the political inclination. It's exhausting and we're having a bad time. We know shit sucks here and we are trying our hardest to not descend further into fascism with a guy who literally admires Hitler. If we get some lightly progressive policies out of it, that's great. By pushing some "both parties suck" propaganda in this eleventh hour, everyone is going to dog pile you because we're sick of this so much.

  • Thank you lol

I am noting that OP didn't respond here, mayhaps they enjoy critiquing political circumstances they can't contribute to more than addressing their own? 🤔

And they edited the post to something innocuous! For anyone coming in late, the original was what u/Prunebutt here said but with US politics instead.

  • Bruh you're not even US American, get outta here with this defeatist crap. Don't you have your own right wing surge to fight in Germany?

  • If you get denied for coverage for something you know is in your plan always ask for the name and credentials of whoever made the denial! If they are not an MD they are not supposed to make that call as that can be interpreted as practicing medicine (determining if someone gets treatment or not) without a license. Often insurance companies will back down if you assert that you need a medical professional to review the denial /your appeal of the denial. (YMMV/IANAL)

  • Meanwhile, everyone on tumblr is relieved that Matt has something to distract him from harassing trans women for existing

  • Girl the fit is excellent but can we talk about how good your hair looks?? Truly fairytale princess hair, 10/10, no notes

  • I hate to be pedantic but that's almost exactly the definition of a centrist, someone who collaborates with both sides (even if one of those sides is fascist, genocidal, racist, etc.). And again, I don't disagree, it's a bad thing to be for exactly that reason. But it's also a different thing than being explicitly a right wing authoritarian fascist like Trump is.

  • Don't mistake me for a Kamala Harris apologist- she is absolutely a huge centrist in her presidential campaign. I am tired of this false equivalency with the total fascist ilk she's running against. It's not useful and it's dishonest.

  • Bruh I know the Overton window in the US is megafucked but she's literally one of our most liberal politicians by voting record, she is not "firmly right wing" by any reasonable standard

  • Are we talking gross or net income as the baseline? Before taxes, $7k a month is still under $100k annually.

  • Is this a community, or is this a circlejerk? I don't think categorizing beginners who don't know where to start as leeches creates the kind of environment people of all knowledge levels want to spend time in. You don't personally have to educate them, but telling them off for asking is pretty rude.

  • They can! They look identical to the old blinds, just without the string. I had to ask if the installers forgot the strings when we got new ones a few years ago!

  • He's a cop, of course he knows how law enforcement will go through and find something incriminating

  • Have you ever met a tenured college prof before? Lol

  • Even ranked choice voting couldn't save NYC from picking the most bonkers mayors you can imagine

  • One of the things I found useful for occasionally setting boundaries is "time out", ie, shut her in your bathroom for about 5 min when she's really bouncing off the walls. I wouldn't use it as a more than once a day kind of thing, but sometimes communicating "this is too much, we are not playing right now and you can come out once you calm down a little" can reset the mood quite a bit. And it can give you a short breather when you are feeling overwhelmed.

I'd also recommend watching some old "My Cat from Hell" episodes, they have some very specific advice that can help out a ton! Jackson Galaxy is really a cat whisperer, and also talks quite a bit about the relationship between not only the humans and the cat, but also coaching the relationship between people as well. It's important you and your fiancee are on the same page and work together.

  • Just curious, but why is your description of an entirely different incident than the headline?

  • One of the good things about renewable energy projects is that largely they don't require a ton of labor to maintain, but they do need a fair bit of spin up to get planned and permitted and installed. Wind tends to require more specialized installation, so you may have a traveling install crew there, but solar often relies on local labor pools. So there are a few years of community jobs generated but it's very small for the life of the project.

Some project developers (the good ones at least) are working to invest in local communities like other member businesses- sponsoring little league teams, creating community gardens, funding science education, etc. Is that enough? Hard to say, but I think the idea that projects can bring value to communities should be decoupled from the amount of local jobs they bring at least. Ideally that's through some means of UBI, but more likely some form of tax on profits going to community reinvestment (that's broad enough to cover Walmarts and more too).

  • Sonori is completely right here, and it feels in bad faith to critique the semantics of their comment rather than the substance of them.

One of the things that is difficult about solarpunk is that there is a huge divide between where we currently are and where we want/need to be. Smaller turbines for a more distributed power grid is a part of a great future to look towards! But it's not the reality of our power demands now, which necessitate larger turbines and more steel production to meet any of our climate goals. Speaking coherently through that divide can really lead to mismatched expectations and miscommunications.
