  • Hey, just so you're aware, a lot of women and trans people find this joke pretty misogynistic and transphobic since it implies that it would be more demeaning for Elon to be a woman or queer than it is for him to be his regular cringey self. Something to keep in mind so we don't friendly-fire on our allies!

Edit for anyone still struggling with this: if 👏 you 👏 misgender 👏 ANYONE 👏 on purpose 👏 then 👏 trans 👏 people 👏 will 👏 not 👏 trust 👏 you 👏

ThePowerofGeek, you're great and appreciated and I hope you don't read anything below from the people who want you to have a worse reaction so their feelings don't get hurt vicariously.

  • Who's to say if it didn't change anything? If it keeps their camp in even slightly more disarray and distrust, the inefficiency in enacting terrible policies could save lives.

That said, I do think this time is a bit different since I believe Bannon is happy to play the role of sycophant, but Elon has a lot of ego going into this. Even with no outside pressure, Trump and Elon are going to have major personality clashes sooner than later.

  • Specifically on women's mental health deteriorating in this situation, often this can occur when she's still expected to pick up the majority (or all) of domestic labor in addition to her well-paying job. Women are still largely expected to "do it all" by not only their partners but by society. If you're not a perfect businesswoman, mother, and domestic servant all in one all the time, well you're failing your spouse, your children, your boss, your identity as a woman, etc. Women don't just need their male partners to step up for them in labor alone, but also to reevaluate their social role that they are propagating through their (in)actions. What are you teaching your kid if mom is the only one who cooks dinner? Or cleans regularly without reminders? Or keeps track of doctor's visits, field trips, etc?

  • I do think there is one answer that would solve 90%+ of these: legal abortion.

  • Be aware that if you're keeping up taking care of him, someday it may be in his best interests to keep you from excelling on your own. Please be wary of anything that could sabotage your life plans, and have contingency plans ready. Best of luck ♥️

  • bro is gonna loose it when he learns about bisexuals

  • No protests from me, just stating facts that there are plenty of people who don't as well

  • Bruh forgot about trans people, lesbians, and asexuals

  • Counterpoint: a greater number have touched a vagina (but that framing doesn't obsess over a woman's sexual purity, so, clearly less important)

  • Are you sure they are intending it in a diminutive sense and not a familiar or affectionate sense? Buddy is pretty common to call people you are being friendly with in American English at least. If you don't like a nickname or term of endearment, you can tell your friends not to use it, but fair warning, friends of your age might just tease you about it instead of respecting your wishes.

  • Bad news there, Adams won on a ranked choice primary (NYC's first I believe). I think there are bigger issues at play with corruption and campaign spending here. Also the NYC challenge, don't pick a total dick head for mayor, impossible edition.

  • For most people who menstruate, they bleed for around 7 days but that's not the number of days spent in pain, which are typically 1-3 days with varying levels discomfort. Peak discomfort may only be for a few hours when appropriately treated. Flexibility here might include working from home if an option, where you can be under a heat pack and well medicated, up to time off (partial days off here can be important!). People who need to take multiple days off a month for this 1) probably would do it anyway and maybe call it a headache or something else instead, and 2) may need further medical care and attention (that they may be able to receive if they aren't spending all of their sick time on this one issue).

  • Not anymore, we're doing HOT TO GO now!

  • Definitely not expecting you alone to solve this issue! I am speaking generally to anyone reading to be aware of the tangible effects of these policy decisions on actual people who, under even pretty strict definitions, didn't do anything wrong.

The solution to feeling powerless as an individual, btw, is to find like-minded people and organize! In 2017 people came together to stop ICE agents in airports, on Greyhound busses, and more. No one is asking folks to be John Wick.

  • Just a reminder to folks who are sympathizing but hesitant, DACA are people brought over as minors. They did not have any decision making in coming here legally or not and largely haven't grown up outside the US. They are Americans, plain and simple. Regardless of the legal system at play here, morally and ethically they belong in their home in the US. We need to fight the idea of deportation being acceptable here (and broadly as well). Please stand up for your neighbors!

  • In addition to what everyone else has said so far, even if some doctors are doing this, they are probably keeping quiet about it. You and I outside of Texas will never know if anyone is violating this law until someone sues. My guess is that 3 deaths in 2 years is either vastly under reported, or there are doctors who are toeing the line of this law more closely than others.

  • I think a lot of ordinary people on the left in America have learned from the first term that being glued to the news cycle does nothing but harm your mental health. Trump is going to do and say outrageous things, but ruminating on them only serves as a demotivator- unless you live in a place with a senator on the border about an issue or appointment, you really don't have any power to prevent a Matt Gatez appointment or whatever. The outrage machine of corporate media no longer serves as "being informed". People who are worried are taking action in their community, building up local and remote contacts, and supporting those affected by these soon to be enacted policies proactively. Turning the TV off is a good thing for that.

Check in with your friends and family. Understand local and state politics and make sure you turn up there. Make plans for when things go south.

  • All you're doing is telling other trans people that their gender recognition is conditionally valid only on their good behavior, and that it can be revoked if they piss you off. Maybe consider why this would make trans people feel unsafe with you, even if they are on your side politically.
