  • You've got some points but I would argue that antiquated UI will be what saves the Internet. Keeping out bots and AI scrapers with good old fashioned phpBBS systems that have been around for twenty years will be our clean data as we build systems outside of AI and the techbro properties.

  • My understanding is that it's a safety issue. Currently, substations have source power shutoffs so any lead-in power source can be easily cut off to replace equipment. But, they're not set to handle other power inputs in the substation grid. I've never fully understood this reasoning as once power is handed off from one substation to the other (to prevent outages) it should be completely dead to do maintenance. It might be my ignorance on it but I can't see how this is a problem and is likely a method by power companies to reduce solar usage by forcing expensive equipment between the grid and household.

  • They're also safe from electric fans. Metal chopsticks + no fans stealing their souls while they sleep... Actually, I can't even finish my thought on this one. I'm a US citizen. South Korea is doing pretty well by my current standards.

  • I'm far from an expert, but it seems like if one cloud node goes down, pay hackers to slam everything with bot traffic and the system is brought to its knees.

  • Considering it was London, I'm surprised death by teeth wasn't more prevalent.

  • I can't speak for everyone with my comment here. I really, really hate the side effects of the AI bubble. Where they force it into every fucking element of life. And honestly, I hate even that it's being called AI. I hate that it's made traditional algorithmic services worse like Google Now for example. And I hate the lack of privacy it's brought.

That said, I have no problems with someone using it to complete a project with it. I think it could potentially raise a potential device security concern in a case like this. And probably wouldn't partake in the app because of that. But I use my own self-hosted LLMs all the time. It helps me format things, saves me time with searching and researching when I want an answer, not knowledge.

There are many rational reasons to dislike and avoid "AI". As well, there's many irrational people. And there are some good uses for the technology.

  • Only if you bought Cards Against Humanity. They're giving the money back to the consumer.

  • It's all performative. Every ounce of it. Goth kids don't put as much effort into appearance. Their version of masculinity is being loud, obnoxious and putting themselves above others. It's a dentist on a $30,000 Harley going 15mph while making 160 decibels, wearing $200 T-shirts and $500 jeans to mimic the hard-earned look of a working man. It's weak, fearful men spouting off constantly about the second amendment and their right to defend their families but wouldn't touch a weapon if it didn't look tacticool enough. Esthetics over everything. They're not brave enough to be original in thinking or appearance. Not strong enough to be the rock of servitude that holds people together in hard times. The embodiment of paper tigers.

  • This (seemingly) solves some issues in places like Africa where warlords block or destroy delivery systems to remote villages. Also fixes disaster recovery where pipes are destroyed or water systems are contaminated

  • I self-host Mealie. Works really well for my needs.

  • I'm guessing a guy like that who traded in relationships and secrets would be smart enough to set up a dead man drop in the event he goes quiet for too long. It keeps his life valuable.

  • There's still the option that it was a faked death. That much wealth and power, if it could be done, that's who and when it would be done. I'm not giving it much credence without more evidence, but I've got no reason to think that it's not possible given the series of absurd happenings that morning.

  • Mobile client? I've been using Raccoon but honestly the mobile web probably just as much.

  • General Mills, maybe

  • It's all they've got. They don't want to govern they want to rule. Culture war shit keeps their base riled up and keeps them in power.

  • Say what you will about becoming Pistachio Green, but it's one of the few jobs that didn't require you to use AI.

  • I think my brain is too full of douchebags, this is a name I don't recognize. I hope I can forget it soon.

  • That would be true, except almost every country on the planet has made it illegal to admit the thoughts, so they can't get help. They can't help that they have the thoughts and then they can't get help to fix it. We've (seemingly all of humanity) made their existence illegal and then refuse the social accountability of helping them correct things. I think it was an Australian psychiatrist who set up the anonymous hotline for people who wanted help. That's the only time and place I've heard about people able to get help in this way.

And, to add insult to injury, it really seems to be almost entirely created by trauma. So, the people who would victimize are victims themselves and our universal stance is "sorry, you can't exist."
