  • I think the problem is far simpler; a system designed by so-called elites who viewed the citizenry as inferior. So they explicitly rejected democracy and chose to create a republic in order to be certain only those deemed "worthy" would actually hold power.

    You know, a "first past the post" voting system like we have does not produce results that align with the wishes of the voters, right? And especially when combined with that asinine Electoral College bullshit (which I swear only exists specifically to make gerrymandering a thing).

    Besides, a government so openly corrupt that we are the entire reason the term "banana Republic" exists is a pretty clear sign that our so called "democratic" system is, and always has been, a fucking farce.

    You want someone to blame? How about the bigots and slavers that founded this shit hole. Hell, the first system of government they created accidentally left too much power in the hands of the people, so the Constitution was drafted in secret and without any legal authority. That alone speaks volumes.

    And quite frankly, you sound like you have chosen to believe that everything is the fault of a portion of the populace that is less worthy than the rest. Guess what, though - that's textbook bigotry.

  • I honestly would not be surprised if any attempt to save these samples, or in fact to defend any of the other scientific progress being discarded, was met with a harsh reprisal.

    Like, they're intentionally going over the top destroying these institutions and data to provoke a reaction, this drawing their awake adversaries or if the woodwork. (And, since they're so opposed to being "woke", one just assume they're sleepwalking through life...)

  • Step one is to try and access the bios. If you can, you just need a USB stick with your installer for the OS of your choice (Windows? Eew!).

    If not, you'll need to search for information for your laptop model. You might be able to disassemble the case and remove the CMOS battery. Or, might be another trick?

    If you can't get into the BIOS, you might have a bit more difficult road ahead. Then again, I recall back in the day there was a Linux distro that could launch from an .exe inside of Windows; is that still possible, though? I have no idea.

I mean, seriously think this through - in addition to the operational costs, you are adding a layer of parasitic "capitalists" who intend to personally profit from the situation. Please explain to me how in the hell x + y is supposed to give you a lower final total than x + nothing?!?

    And when everything goes to hell because there are now parasitic sociopaths siphoning away the money, the final result is almost always to sell everything off to a "private equity" that will dismantle shit and sell it off to the highest bidder. Because that's what private equity is - a way to transfer the value to an individual, thus depriving the public of whatever service or product involved.
