Gnome@discuss.tchncs.de•Gnome is pretty darn lightweight and performant these days!English
1·23 minutes agoSame, here, gnome on my main machine for sure.
Wife is on mint cinnamon on her laptop and I have a mini pc running batocera for retro gaming and watching tv/movies.
I’ve paired down to 3 extensions and don’t miss any others honestly. I have appindicators, quick close in main menu, and alphabetical app grid. It’s VERY close to vanilla. Sometimes I’ll turn on blur my shell and change my wallpaper if I just want a change of scenery so to speak lol
All fair I suppose, just wondering. Thanks for the reply!
I heard keepass was going hard on the AI. Is that true? I can’t find much about it tbh.
If so, that’d make me nervous for a pw manager. If not, then it seems like a legit option.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Vanilla OS 3.0.2 released with Linux kernel 7.2 and GNOME 51
3·24 hours agoI really liked this distro when I tried it when 3 first released. I’m on Debian stable gnome and may just switch over to get gnome 51 because gnome 48 is feeling a little too old at this point.
I already use flatpaks for everything so that won’t change much at all anyway.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•We all have strong opinions on a lot of things, but what's something you really don't have a strong opinion on?
4·3 days agoSeeing as we’re on lemmy and I’m sure other people here hold very strong opinions on these things:
- terminals
- text editors
I really don’t understand why people get so fixated on these things. Can I type in it, and they do the thing? 10/10 no notes.

Technology@lemmy.world•Proton users cancel subscriptions following CEO Andy Yen’s “loser thinking” remarksEnglish
4·5 days agoTuta mail and calendar has been a real easy switch. I imported my emails from proton and just started a fresh calendar because I could and it was a good excuse to clean mine up.
The iOS apps work well and the experimental flatpak on desktop has been totally fine.
I have very little complaints so far tbh. I’m not like blown away or anything but everything just seems to work.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Options for folks leaving proton who don’t want to self host?
1·6 days agoyeah, its pretty crazy how involved it is (at least seemingly to me) to host your own email.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Options for folks leaving proton who don’t want to self host?
15·6 days agothis was my take after the last drama with the CEO but this was enough for me to not want to give them money anymore.
I may continue to use one of their free services like the authenticator though since I don’t love my other options and I just don’t want to give them money. I’m not even a huge privacy person, just, like you, wanted to leave google behind.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Options for folks leaving proton who don’t want to self host?
4·6 days agoYeah, so my needs are super minimal tbh so Tuta does plenty for me.
No integration with mail clients or IMAP support but they have a linux desktop flatpak or appimage that integrates well for me and an iOS app that also works well for me. I’ve been using the experimental flatpak on mint cinnamon and it’s been working well so far. No major issues.
I was also using proton vpn a lot but not anymore! I never used mail clients so that isn’t a thing I need to worry about luckily, and neither does anyone in my family.
I’ll check out airvpn, so thanks for the rec. I wish bitwarden had free auth but I’m open to just using it as my pw manager.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux Mint Devs Introduce New System Monitor and Terminal Emulator Apps // The devs also introduced the Unfold archive manager and added a preview pane in the Nemo file manager.
11·6 days agoI’m excited, I’m installing LMDE today and looking forward to getting these tools soon.
Wife and I stayed in, grabbed take out and wine, caught up on bake off. No complaints, lovely night.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Compared to All That's Out There, is KDE's Kate a Good Code Editor?
2·7 days agoMan we’re the same person lol I too use geany for basically everything and tried out Kate because it felt more feature complete but it just isn’t. There is nothing I can do on Kate that I can’t do in Geany that is relevant to me. Mostly Lua programming and markdown editing.
I’d say just make a theme that fits the KDE style and use some breeze icons in the editor to make it feel more like it belongs and use what works and is comfortable.
I still use gnome and so I made a gnome builder editor theme and made the whole editor look like gnome builder and it works wonderfully. I bet the same is possible for kde.

Sway is really cool. I played with it for a few days and really enjoyed it! On my main laptop though, gnome just does it for me. Sway was a ton of fun to play in but I couldn’t image using it for day to day work. I could totally see how people could though.
