  • Agreed. I would like to see an option to use NFC for payments that isn't tied to Google/Apple pay. Anything that eliminates an obstacle to breaking out of that duopoly ecosystem is hugely beneficial.

  • Kinda. The supply issue was solved but they just decided to keep the prices inflated using shady renaming tactics (ie: what should've been the 4060 became the 4070) and not enough people cared.

  • SOT is a useless stat. Battery drain is determined by the type of apps you use and the way they consume resources. Playing a GPU intensive game for 30mins will probably have a much greater effect on the battery than someone watching YouTube for 3hrs.

The responses you're getting also are about uptime instead of SOT. Getting a real apples to apples comparison will be very difficult without comparing with someone with the same hardware/software/apps/usage pattern.

  • That is a really good use case.

  • Got it. Never even thought about looking into books when I was getting into the hobby. It was all just searching and following online guides. I am curious if there's anything out there other than the typical linux/networking stuff.

  • Guys, OP is asking for recommendations for books about self-hosting, not recommendations on how to self-host books.

  • Friendly suggestion: Substitute video's clickbait title with something more informative like "Variable pricing using AI algorithms are increasing grocery prices."

  • They're definitely going to nerf performance in a future update. Probably won't affect your typical bursty tasks but resource-intensive gaming and long video processing tasks will take a hit.

  • Will do, I'm all AMD. I'm sure you won't need the mpv workaround for too long.

  • Ah yes nvidia. I'm sure it'll get better with time. Only other thing I can suggest is trying a nightly version of firefox to see if it makes a difference.

  • Nothing other than enabling hdr. When I get a little more time, I'll follow up with what the fix is for my existing profile in case someone comes across this thread in the future.

Does it work in chromium for you? I didn't have to change any settings for it to work.

Edit: Turns out I enabled media.prefer-non-ffvpx while experimenting with some settings and forgot to change it back. Can confirm that is what was causing the colours to be washed out.

  • I've been on purelymail.com for a couple of years. Receive about 1000 emails a month and send out about 50. Averaging around $0.40/month. They also have a flat rate option of $10/year as long as you don't abuse the system.

  • Damn, those environment variables worked. I have the game in GOG and use heroic. Previously, I just checked the boxes to enable wayland and hdr to get the hdr option to show up in game. After unchecking the boxes and adding those variables, HDR in cyberpunk works as it should and looks great. Thanks!

I also tried a new profile in FF145. Enabled gfx.wayland.hdr, restarted it and tested the linked video. It worked normally, so something in my profile is messing with the hdr setting in firefox. I'll troubleshoot further.

  • I use it with Arch & KDE. Just enabled HDR in display settings and did the calibration. Only issue I had was with cyberpunk, couldn't get hdr to work properly (seems to be a known issue). Works with other games I've tried, youtube hdr videos, and mpv hdr movies.

Edit: I tested your link (as well as other hdr youtube videos ) and it was washed out. I remember watching that exact video before to test my monitor. I downloaded firefox 144 and it worked properly so I think something in 145 broke youtube hdr in linux.

  • It affects resale value.

  • Why do you keep shooting yourself in the foot AMD? You don't have that many toes left.

Seriously, how hard is it to put out a quick clarification that doesn't alienate a majority of your customers? The statement they just gave to tomshardware is not good enough.

  • This was a surprisingly entertaining video about how GPUs are made. Yeston is the weird kid on the block but I like to see them trying things.
