why would you take anything you see on the internet seriously?

  • 'tis what a hot hatch is for.

  • I am also Canadian, so take into account my currency's value is a little shitty.

I paid 38k CAD for my Mazda 3 Sport with AWD. That figure is probably closer to around 30k USD. For that price I could have gotten a Hyundai Kona, but there's no way I would have been able to afford a 45k USD BMW. The Kona is also closer to the hatchback form factor as a crossover, but it looks like it'd ride too high for my liking.

  • That's always been my problem with EVs is that they just cost too much money.

If I could have gotten an equivalent electric car to my Mazda 3 for the same price I would have.

  • I'M DOING MY PART!

Garuda for gaming and Silverblue for work.

  • Silverblue rocks, I use it for my mission critical laptop.

For gaming it's hard to beat Arch, still, because of how much active development is being put in by people like Steam.

  • Lmao this is the same thing Volkswagen did years ago.

  • I'm so tired of reddit crossposts, they're fucking useless.

  • Bad.

It doesn't work natively on Windows without stressing even the highest end machines. I guarantee if you try to emulate it, the result will be even worse than the already terrible native experience.

  • Not sure how that got deleted.

That's just what lemmynsfw is unfortunately. It's mostly bots reposting content or girls hocking their OF. There's like Sexmeat who used to be a redditor, with a far more vulgar name (Fuckmeat) and maybe a half a dozen others.

.world might not be federated with NSFW communities, as a lot of major instances don't want to deal with the legal ramifications of hosting pornography in any form. .ca has not defederated from the NSFW instances, however most of our userbase tends to block the communities when they do pop up, assuming they have NSFW enabled.

I started to find the porn side of things to be weird and pathetic. Outside of the random ass niche fetish communities popping up, it just feels really sad to see the same half a dozen girls trying to advertise to basically nobody. We have an infinitesimally smaller userbase than reddit, and as much as I like seeing naked ladies, OF ads get fucking tiresome and I think they are way less effective here than elsewhere.

  • I tend to use XFCE on machines with lower specs. It's a lighter DE. Plasma has always been pretty heavy in comparison, because it's really customizable and designed to be very good looking, which can be taxing on lower-end hardware.

  • Endeavour has been great with Plasma. That's how I've always configured it.

I can't wait until they push the big Wayland update with KDE; I am using Wayland with an Nvidia card and it can be a bit unpredictable.

  • They have a duty to moderate public-facing systems. This is a link/bookmark sharing system, so obviously bookmarks that are pointing to things that are illegal are going to be dealt with.

  • Framework laptops are interesting and I hope eventually the modularity allows the components to go down in price. Right now I was looking at a 16 (which all sold out within 3 hours of pre-order launch) but it comes out to easily over 3k CAD for a disassembled kit, skimping on RAM and an SSD.

  • Thinkpads are cheap and accessible basically everywhere. They are business-grade devices and you can get one when folks retire their machines. A lot of places practically give them away. They were just gonna get thrown out anyways.

Framework is dumb expensive - a 16 even skimping out on RAM/HDDs comes out to over 3k CAD, and that's for a disassembled kit -- pre-built with full components comes out to easily over 3.5k, which is like a MacBook price for the promise of upgradability down the line.

System76 are rebranded shitty components from Chinese manufacturers. They're not better for Linux than any general consumer laptop, and their entire position is basically branding regarding freedom and 1776. Ironic that a company so deeply American in nature basically just resells garbage from China.

  • The main issue is that easy problems that should be solved baseline by the OS crop up far too often for the average user to want to have to deal with day to day. Also, whenever you go to ask on a forum, you're usually told to just do something entirely different or use another distro. Every time I go to fix something on this machine it sends me down a rabbit hole of shit I don't care about because it doesn't solve my problem since it introduces a brand new one to solve. If I want to use solution X don't tell me to go install program Y that's your favorite program to use but is literally not what I'm trying to accomplish.

Today I installed Manjaro onto an old laptop and for the life of me I could not figure out why it wasn't connecting to the internet. It wasn't a network issue, it was the fact that the time was out of sync. It took me a while to realize that was the issue and not that I had fucked up my router config or something. It just couldn't validate any cryptography because the time was off. There were like four different solutions that all attempted the same fix and eventually I was able to connect with ethernet and restart timesync, which only worked after a restart.
