  • I've never been to the US, so I can't say I won't go there again, but I can say I won't go there at all.

    But in terms of countries I have been to, probably New Zealand. There's nothing wrong with New Zealand, but it feels too much like Australia, and baring me suddenly developing an unlimited amount of time and money, there are other places I would rather go

  • Piefed and lemmy are both group actor based activitypub platforms, and Piefed is explicitly designed to be compatible with lemmy, simply because lemmy has the traction/momentum in the activitypub niche they both exist in.

    The difference isn't protocol based, it's just a piefed design decision and one that could easily be changed if a dev gets the chance to put some time in to it.

  • I use Kagi. Paying for a search engine isn't something that I ever saw myself doing, but I do honestly believe it's the only way they can exist that means the users are the customers instead of the product.

    They don't support housing for everyone because they don't believe that non western foreigners should be allowed in to the country, and they don't believe that people who aren't "culturally Danish" are citizens.

    So they don't believe in housing for all

    German right-wing populist party Alternative für Deutschland is led by a lesbian who calls her party "the only real protective force for gays and lesbians in Germany

    They're an explicitly transphobic party who doesn't extend queer rights to trans people, even if they're gay or lesbian. They actively practice discrimination against LGBTQ folk.

  • The distro I find easiest to recommend to folk in my life looking to move to Linux is the distro that I'm using/most familiar with, because it makes it easier to help them out if they run in to an issue.

    I use CachyOS, and previously, I was trying to support Mint etc, but having zero experience with the way the way Mint handles packages, with its default apps, update process etc, I found myself having to research an OS I don't use, and offer 2nd hand advice. I moved them over to CachyOS, and even though technically, it's not as beginner friendly, my day to day familiarity with it meant that it was easier to help out when troubles arose.

    That sub exists specifically to prey on folk like you. Folk that are struggling with internalised transphobia and self worth issues.

    Transphobes (and bigots in general) actively seek people they can demonstrate their bigotry against. It's performative, to improve their in group cohesion, and it addresses their own self worth issues and let's them feel empowered.

    That sub exists purely to attract people for them to prey on.

    They're preying on you, because hurting you and folk like you brings them joy.

    You stop going, because even though dealing with your own self image can be a long battle, it's a battle you can navigate without empowering them.

  • To be clear, it explicitly doesn't exist on blahaj lemmy instances and their communities. We put the safety and needs of trans and gender diverse folk first and foremost. If someone does a transphobia, however civil and legal, it's going to get removed from blahaj communities, free speech or not, because protecting the needs of trans folk is a higher priority for us than protecting the ability for people to harass trans folk.

  • I just got my NSW gender marker updated because of this legislation change! I had GRS years ago, but even then, it was simply too onerous to change your gender marker on your NSW birth certificate, so I never bothered, given that I was able to update my passport and everything else.

    My birth cert remained the one thing left, and it's finally done too now that it's not a gatekeeping nightmare!

  • Before I accepted myself, I used to dream of this sort of post singularity future.

    But now... Being in the human body I was born with caused crippling dysphoria until I was able to do something about it. So now, I wonder, what most of those bodies just end up being uncomfortable and triggering dysphoria again?

    Obviously, there would be some choices that wouldn't, but I have to wonder, if the further away I got from the "base model", the more dysphoria might come back to say hi
