I have commited the Num-Code for ™ to muscle memory.

  • 1 Semantics, but that doesn't sound "inherently" sexist to me.

    2 I'm pretty sure it just makes more comedic sense to put the unexpected interpretation on the right (or women's side), so the "bad side" is different depending on the topic. I personally see this meme more often with the man being a surface level fan of something with the women being unexpectedly deep into the fandom. Like, among the earliest known edits (according to knowyourmeme) is the man just liking sports games with the women liking soulslikes.

  • Really puts it into perspective, we here in Germany complained (online) like hell when the price was raised from 58€ to 63€ this year and tied to inflation, yet it seems to be a rather standard fare. Train service notwithstanding, I do think Germany's rail network might be worth 3€ more to a passenger than Spain's.

    Ihr seid doch vertraglich verpflichtet, die unwirtschaftlichen Standorte mit all den profitablen Routen, die euch gegeben wurden, zu subventionieren! Was wollt ihr euch jetzt denn Beschweren, dass es unwirtschaftliche Standorte gibt? Das war doch bei der Privatisierung immer klar! Nur Profite haben wollen, die Verpflichtungen kann wer anderes machen?

    Ist natürlich dieselbe Situation wie mit den Geldautomaten - irgendwann wird es wohl die absolute Ausnahme sein, nicht am Automaten zu stehen und einem Angestellten das machen zu lassen. Aber doch gerade die Post muss doch den technisch-beschränkten Menschen offen bleiben, und wenn die Automaten dieselbe Qualität bei Texteingabe haben, wie ich neulich einen bei SEPA-Lastschrift eingeben hatte, dürfte es an der Barrierefreiheit noch einiges zu machen geben - alles größer als ein Tablet sollte nicht nur Touchscreeneingaben akzeptieren und ne Tastatur haben.

    The main problems with traditional motorcycles are that they're louder and dirtier than cars, but both things could be solved with electric motors.

    But aside from that, they're basically better - or less bad - cars. Granted, I'm not in a scooter city like those in south east Asia, so I might be missing something, but I believe 1-2 Scooter parking spaces per household is more realistic than 1-2 car parking spaces and 50 people on scooters can move through an intersection quicker than the same people in cars. In a crash, they're way more likely to kill or injure their driver than a car, but less likely to do that to the other parties.

    I think they're fine.

  • Die Kassen, die Bargeld nehmen, können viel einfacher automatisiert zum Seriennummern scannen benutzt werden und damit auch das Bargeld immer weiter deanonymisieren.

    Kann ich das Anzweifeln? Also, nicht das deanonymisieren, sondern dass das viel einfacher an Selbstbedienkassen passieren können soll. Das automatische Geld Zählen kann ja auch passieren, wenn die Person hinter der Kasse es einwirft. Und wenn jede Technik hinterfragt wird, in der das Geld reingesteckt wird, gibt es ja auch schon automatische Echtheitsprüfer, über die man Paranoid sein kann.

    Egal, wie das noch ausgeweitet wird, kommt es mir weniger sinnvoll vor, dass als Argument gegen SB-Kassen zu nutzen.

  • Ich bin ja immer für Solidarität unter Arbeiter*innen, aber da kann man einfach nichts machen.

    Es gibt genug Leute, die das Selbstkassieren aus verschiedenen Gründen bevorzugen. Die "Protestschlange" sorgt nur dafür, dass mehr Menschen einen Vorteil an der Alternative sehen.

    Nicht einmal eine Obergrenze vom Verhältnis Personal zu Maschinen kann man sich damit verhoffen, das kommt höchstens von der Politik, weil eine lange Schlange eben nicht den Druck der Kassierer*innen auf die Unternehmen erhöht. Ansonsten wären ja verlangsamen der Schlange durch das Bargeldabzählen, absichtliche "Fehlkäufe", die zurückgelegt werden müssen oder das Verweigern, sich an mehrere Kassen aufzuteilen, genauso effektiv. Ich glaube, da hat die Person hinter der Kasse dann auch sehr schnell keinen Bock auf diese Solidarität.

    Außer genossenschaftlich einen Tante Emma Laden im Kiez zu haben, führt wohl kein Weg an der Automatisierung vorbei.

    Zwischen 10 und 20 ist eine tolle Entwicklung.

    Danach ist es neuzeitlicher Unfug und muss an jeder Ecke bekämpft werden, ehe es zur Selbstverständlichkeit wird!

The present study therefore used honey bee stings to determine whether sting location impacts painfulness, and how painfulness varies by location.

  • Inspired by the Schmidt Sting Pain Index, Michael L. Smith did us all a favour and answered the obvious follow up question on which body parts hurt the most when stung. He had honey bee guards sting him in 25 locations, multiple times to account for variability, over 38 days.

    Results:

    The three least painful locations were the skull, middle toe tip, and upper arm (all scoring a 2.3). The three most painful locations were the nostril, upper lip, and penis shaft (9.0, 8.7, and 7.3, respectively).

    He and Schmidt were awarded with a shared Ig Noble Price for their efforts.

    I'm not here to argue that public transport is ideal for everyone, but that it can work great even outside city centres. And if public transport sucks where you are, it's not because it's impossible to have good public transport in the suburbs. If someone tells you it's impossible outside city centres, they either don't know or are lying.

Infinities can also be seem bigger than another, but be mathematically equal. The number of natural, real and rational numbers are all infinite, and might seem different, but they are all proven ℵ0.

    Claypidgin was talking about the real numbers between [0,1] and [0,2], which are both ℵ1 infinite. Some infinities are indeed bigger than others, but those 2 are still the same infinity.
