  • Two main ways fortnite keeps the game "fresh" is adding new "skins" (player character appearance) and "emotes" (actions). They licensed the adventure time and spongebob characters as "skins" which players can earn or purchase.

    The adventure time characters appear to be doing a basic "hug emote", which is one of several interactive emotes that, if one player does it, another player can reciprocate by approaching and engaging the emote. It looks like they're making out because this emote was designed for basic skins, not specific to these skins.

    I'm not sure if that's just spongebob's face or not, but I assume it's an emote exclusively designed for that skin

    Edit: The primary game mechanic is third person shooter, though they've got several popular roleplay style game modes/options where folks just fuck around. It's become kind of like roblox, in which it's now a platform for game makers to make their own game and publish it for others to play

  • I think dark text on a light background is the main distinction that helps, though you wouldn't wanna do blue/yellow or red/green due to color blindness.

    I think the issue with the font itself is that you're using a font designed for print media which is hard to read on a screen for folks with vision and reading related disabilities

    Everyone should really just be adding a transcript regardless though, that way it doesn't matter. On Android, I use the OCR tool in the "Image Toolbox" app available on Fdroid (I'm guilty of not doing this myself often btw- I need to be better about it myself)

  • In 7th grade, my class was doing an exercise in which you describe yourself using a list of adjectives starting with each letter in your name. My last name ends in the letter H, so I described myself with 11 grandiose adjectives, followed by "and most of all: Humble." I didn't get a single laugh, so I just ended up sounding like a narcissist

  • PEMDAS isn't obvious to "common people"? Why not? It doesn't seem like an arbitrary convention to me...

    If "×" means "groups of," then "2+2×4" means "two plus two groups of four" which only makes sense, to me, to be read as "two plus two groups of four" rather than "two plus two groups of four"

    Sure the order of operations could be arbitrarily different, but I feel like we settled on that order because it simply makes more sense intuitively.

    I'm aware of the possibility that it only feels natural and intuitive to me because I was taught that way, but I at least don't think that applies to this specific example

  • "Therapy speak" is such a growing problem that it was included in a newsletter I just got about "Trends for therapists to look out for in 2026." It was #2 on the 6 item list

    I used to be able to trust that when a new client says "my partner gaslights me" they meant they are literally being abused, but now I have to ask whether they're being hyperbolic or using that term colloquially, which risks invalidating their experience.

    This is similar to how people going gluten free caused a headache for people with celiac disease. Yes, there have been benefits, like growing awareness and more options on the shelf, but it also led to celiac folks not being taken/treated seriously, which could be deadly.
