  • Honestly, that’s not what I see from them. They may have the lowest paid employee working cashier, but the people who handle customer service desks are chosen and trained to handle these sort of situations diplomatically, even when effectively the same thing happens and they just talk bad about these clowns in the staff room. The only places I see people just openly admitting “I don’t care” attitude openly are usually people on a second hand market apps and people with small businesses who have their local market penned in. Might just be my experience, I’m also not in the US.

  • Excerpts from Wikipedia:

A replication attempt with a sample from a more diverse population, over 10 times larger than the original study, showed only half the effect of the original study. The replication suggested that economic background, rather than willpower, explained the other half.

Work done in 2018 and 2024 found that the Marshmallow Test “does not reliably predict adult functioning”.

It’s great for a confirmation bias, but such a study is way too simplistic to really reach a conclusion. Oh, and:

The results seemed to indicate that not thinking about a reward enhances the ability to delay gratification, rather than focusing attention on the future reward.

  • In my opinion, those sort of businesses are also the ones that end up crying out when they lose to bigger players in the space who are willing with those sort of customers. At the end of the day, are you there to feel good, or are you there to get money? Here’s a little secret: nobody cares about those sort of people, it’s just that some care more about the money they can get from them than others.

For me, it’s right up there with tech support that complain about the trivial bullshit they are called for when it is that trivial bullshit that gives them a job.

  • You can tell when a tradition was set in by the hidden undertone it allowed to play for it. “Time for your circumcision… Whoops! Guess you are my eunuch surrogate now, totally didn’t mean to eliminate the competition / your genes from my gene pool of surrogates!” Yeah, probably looking too much into it, it’s not like it’s a practice associated with a culture heavily associated with a god’s chosen master race ideology or anything. Totes just a coincidence that it was fabulously sported by the slave loving Egyptians and cultures famous for their obsession with slave land owners of the times as a “rite of passage”. /actualshitcomment

  • A lot of them are arguing in bad faith or have been brainwashed by the people that do. It is clear people can not only still protest, but protest far better with fewer worries and more effect under the lesser evil. These clowns would be complaining about the US winner-takes-all system of democratic governance if they truly cared, and there was only basically one option where protesting for that didn’t make you a potential deportee to El Salvador prisons.

The only thing you’ve argued is that you are choosing one particular definition of smart, ignoring the one I was using, and going all Grammar Nazi into how that’s the only possible definition. As I’ve said, if I am grateful for one thing, it is that I am not one of those people whose ego is shallow enough to has /have to be jizzing everywhere, including their perception of things.

They are. Unless you can translate what I’m saying to any language I tell you to on the fly, I’m going to assume that anyone that tells me they are smarter than LLMs are lower on the spectrum than usual. Wikipedia and a lot of libraries are also more knowledgeable than me, who knew. If I am grateful for one thing, it is that I am not one of those people whose ego has to be jizzing everywhere, including their perception of things.
